The Falcons are shuffling their coaching staff for the 2016 season with Raheem Morris leaving behind years of experience as a coach on the defensive side of the ball to become the wide receivers coach in Atlanta.
Coach Dan Quinn said Morris will be a “tremendous asset” to the offense in the team’s release about the move and he thinks that veteran wide receiver Roddy White can be an asset to Morris as he makes the transition to his new job. Quinn said that White “knows the tricks” of the position and shared his own experience of learning from an accomplished player.
“Can you learn from players? I think you definitely can. I can also think back to my own time,” Quinn said, via ESPN.com. “I went to the Miami Dolphins and Jason Taylor was one of the pass-rushers there. Came in my first year, man, [and] I learned a lot from him: discussing, the teaching, the time on the field together. ... I think the learning, it never stops, man. And I think that’s why Roddy’s so fired up to roll, too. And he’s so jacked to make his mark on the position as well.”
For White to help Morris, he’ll have to be on the Falcons in 2016. White had a quiet season in 2015 and said at the end of the year that he wasn’t sure what next season will bring. Quinn said Monday that White is under contract and that he loves “all the stuff that [White] stands for as a player” as the team evaluates what will happen in the offseason.
