Malcolm Jenkins will replace Tyrann Mathieu at Pro Bowl

The list of replacement players at this year’s Pro Bowl now includes all three free safeties.

Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins has been named to the roster and will take the place of Tyrann Mathieu, who missed the final weeks of the Cardinals season after tearing his ACL in late December. Jenkins joins Reshad Jones and Harrison Smith as fill-ins for the originally selected Mathieu, Reggie Nelson and Earl Thomas.

Jenkins played all but two snaps on defense for the Eagles during the regular season. He led the team with 120 tackles and tied for the team lead with 15 passes defensed and three forced fumbles. He also had two interceptions, one of which he returned 99 yards for a touchdown in a victory over the Patriots, and a fumble recovery.

It’s the first time that Jenkins has been on the Pro Bowl roster and he’s the first Eagles safety to go to the game since Quintin Mikell in 2010. Defensive end Fletcher Cox, left tackle Jason Peters and kick returner Darren Sproles will also represent the Eagles in the game.

This Pro Bowl is going to be amazing. All the pretty-good-est players in the league are gonna turn up.

Good for him, he has been a bright spot in a weak secondary for a couple years now.

Great instincts and a couple memorable game changing plays.

The Pro Bowl is sponsored by Pepsi. But Pepsi didn’t want to go. So the Pro Bowl is now sponsored by Diet Rite.

Hopefully with this array of misfits we may actually have some competition and speed out there

I took a jog today just in case the phone rings and I get invited to play. I have got to be getting near the top of the list.

Jenkins deserves it. Stellar player – would be even better if his hands weren’t made of stone. Feels like he drops 16 INT’s per year.

PLEASE stop playing this game. The best / originally selected players aren’t playing in the game. And when they do it’s just a flag football game b/c no one dares get hurt in a meaningless game after a full season of brutal play.

Just have some awards ceremony….this way the players still get recognized, the NFL can tap into the entertainment industry to have guest hosts/singers there, and it can be another avenue for sponsors to pile in.

But what I want the most is that dang skills challenge to return. I want to see the QB’s trying to hit the golf carts….seeing who can throw the ball the furthest….the RB & WR’s competing in the 40….the hands/catching challenge., etc

It’s a travesty that this guy wasn’t originally selected. He arguably played the best of any safety in the NFL and I doubt very many had more responsibilities than Jenkins. I mean 120 tackles, two picks, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, 15 passes defended and a TD… Those are elite numbers.

I remember Saints fans complaining about him when we signed him and they picked up Byrd; I’d imagine those fans are kind of regretting that move now.
