The Tennessee Titans have hired Deshea Townsend and Steve Jackson to serve as secondary coaches under new full-time head coach Mike Mularkey.

Townsend played for the Pittsburgh Steelers while Mularkey was an offensive coach on Bill Cowher’s staff. He’s spent the last three seasons coaching cornerbacks at Mississippi State. Townsend’s first coaching experience came as an assistant defensive backs coach for the Arizona Cardinals under Ken Whisenhunt from 2011-2012.

Jackson spent nine years playing for the Titans franchise before moving into coaching. He’s spent 13 years as a coach with three different teams. He worked as a secondary coach for the Buffalo Bills, Washington Redskins and Detroit Lions before joining Mularkey’s staff in Tennessee.

In addition, the Titans officially announced the hiring of Russ Grimm as offensive line coach

Wow… says no one.. Sell this team to someone who cares before Mariota leaves in free agency and this franchise gets knocked back another 10 plus years

It’s getting to be Steelers old home week in Tennessee! Love Deshea Townsend. He was an enthusiastic, hard-working corner. Wouldn’t mind having him in our defensive backfield today. Had no idea he’d been coaching at Mississippi State. Wish him great success as he moves into the NFL.

Townsend spent six seasons as a DB in Dick Lebeau’s system in Pittsburgh. That makes him a great fit to teach it to the guys in Tennessee. Hiring Russ Grimm to coach the line is a great move, too. All noise aside, it looks like the Titans are at least trying to position themselves to win.
