Former Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher thinks there’s a right way and a wrong way to celebrate a touchdown, and Urlacher is decidedly in the “Act like you’ve been there before” camp.
Urlacher told USA Today he prefers the way Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning celebrates -- with a quick nod to a teammate and then a jog back to the sideline -- to the Panthers quarterback Cam Newton’s dancing.
“I played defense so I don’t like when guys celebrate with dances and stuff. You know who I like the way he celebrates is Peyton. He kind of gives the guy a handshake and goes back to the sidelines. I think that’s a great celebration right there,” he said. “You don’t see him dancing. You don’t see him doing all of that stuff. Even when he gets a first down he doesn’t do anything.”
Urlacher’s tastes are more Barry Sanders than Billy “White Shoes” Johnson, and that’s OK. But the reality is Newton has the best argument in the debate over dancing: If you don’t want him to celebrate, keep him out of the end zone.
