Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson will be staying in Philadelphia for a long time.
Johnson, the Eagles’ 2013 first-round draft pick, has signed a six-year contract extension, the team has announced. The new deal keeps him under contract through the 2021 season.
The fourth overall pick in 2013, Johnson has started 44 games in three years, 42 at right tackle and two at left tackle when Jason Peters was injured.
Locking up Johnson now is an aggressive move by the Eagles, who could have kept Johnson for two more years under his rookie contract. Philadelphia clearly thinks Johnson will be a significant part of its offensive line for many years to come.
