The Eagles have already signed tight ends Brent Celek and Zach Ertz to contract extensions this offseason and now it appears they’re moving on to one of their starting tackles.

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Eagles and tackle Lane Johnson are “putting the finishing touches” on a contract extension. Per McLane, the deal could be done as soon as Friday.

Johnson joined the Eagles as the fourth overall pick of the 2013 draft, which leaves one year left on his rookie deal as well as the team option for a fifth year that attaches to the contracts of all first round picks. That leaves a lot of time to get an extension done before the team would run the risk of losing Johnson, but there’s not much reason to wait if both sides have found an agreeable price.

Johnson has started all 44 games he’s played with the team since being drafted. Most of those games have come at right tackle, although Johnson moved to the left side when Jason Peters was hurt this season and could move there permanently when Peters’ time in Philly comes to an end. Some have wondered if that will come sooner rather than later, although coach Doug Pederson says he believes Peters has several good years left.
