Jay Cutler gets trolled from beyond the grave

Zz01NDA4ODFlNWNhYmRlNThjNTJjMDVlYTQ1MGQ4MjlmMw== AP

Obituaries routinely take shots at sports teams, with the fairly common requests that the players of a given squad serve as pallbearers so that they can let the deceased down one more time. The obituary for Northbrook, Illinois resident Elizabeth Porter Bowman lets no one down. Well, almost no one.

Via Yahoo Sports, the item appearing in the Chicago Tribune regarding Mrs. Bowman’s passing earlier this month at the age of 78 says that she was a “lifelong fan of the Cubs, Blackhawks and Bears (except Jay Cutler).”

It’s a little harsh, it’s a lot humorous, and it shows that Cutler still has a long way to go — after seven years in Chicago — to win the hearts and minds of Bears fans.

He’s still 10x the quarterback Vikings and Leo’s fans could ever ask for. Bears fans should embrace the damn guy already.

This packers fan respects cutler and his abilities more than either Matthew stafford or Teddy bridgewater.

I hope he gets a kick out of this.

Cutler is a mental midget. I don’t care how far you can throw if you pout like a little boy every time things don’t go your way.

She should have named Cutler a pall bearer … so he could let her down one last time.

Cutler is an okay QB and gets too bad of a rap due to his off-beat personality, but you have to admit it is funny that a little old grandma is (or was) so harsh.

It amazing how there are so many people that watch football and have no clue what they’re talking about. I’m so sick and tired of people who can’t see past the QB position because they don’t understand the game and yet they always feel entitled to air their opinion as if they even know what they’re talking about. Jay presents the best option for the Bears, there is no other way about it. Not everyone can have Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning, Ben Rothlisberger or Andrew Luck.

Starting QB’s worse than Jay Cutler in 2015:
    Matt Ryan
    Ryan Mallet
    Tyrod Taylor
    AJ McCarron
    Austin Davis
    Brock Osweiler
    Brian Hoyer
    Josh Freeman
    Ryan Tannehill
    Ryan Fitzpatrick
    Sam Bradford
    Blaine Gabbert
    Case Keenum
    Zach Mettenberger
    Kellen Moore

Derrick Carr, Kirk Cousins, Teddy Bridgewater, Matt Stafford, Phillip Rivers, Blake B0rtles are considered slightly worse or the same as Jay.

The list above is more than half the league. Jay is a great choice for a starting QB after cringing and typing that list!

I still do not understand the visceral hate of some Bears fans for Cutler. No way he is a top 5 QB or anything but there are quite a few teams out there which are in much worse position at QB1 than the Bears.

Overall I agree with you, but your list has some errors. First off, Phillip Rivers is clearly better than all of these guys, including Cutler. Rivers is a top-10 qb in the league but he’s stuck on a bottom-10 team.

Second, Carr, Cousins, Taylor, and Bortles all had a pretty good year in 2015, especially when you consider that this is only their first or second year as a starter. It’s a small sample size, but I would consider all of them to be doing better than Cutler right now, who has many more years of experience.

Otherwise though, yes, Cutler isn’t that bad and is the best option available for the Bears. If I were a Bears fan, I wouldn’t hate him at all, but I would be hoping that they’re working on his replacement. He only has a couple more years at best.

  22. rextraordinaire says: Jan 30, 2016 5:18 PM

I don’t understand why Bears fans can’t appreciate that Cutler is one of maybe 3 or 4 QBs in its 90+ year history that is not only not awful, but is actually kind of good.

I mean you’d think they’d be more up in arms that a franchise known for having great linebackers, currently has a lot of really terrible linebackers

  23. vikingforlife says: Jan 30, 2016 5:20 PM

I would like to know why in the world anyone who knows anything about anything defends this person??? He has done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for the BEARS since he arrived other that divide people. He gets rid of coaches and teammates. How long are you going to give him??? Quit giving him excuse after excuse after excuse already! Oh it’s an injury, oh it’s the o-line, it’s that injury, oh it’s the defense, oh, blah, blah, blah, blah……Oh wait, NEVER mind!

  25. metalhead65 says: Jan 30, 2016 5:42 PM

real bears fans know what he brings to the team and how awful they would be without him. not his fault the bears traded for him then refuse to use him in the way the broncos had, you know the way that made him one of the best young qb’s in the game when they traded for him. they finally get a oc who knows what to do with him and he has his best season yet.

  26. 1969nflchampionskansascitychiefs says: Jan 30, 2016 5:46 PM

Why do you even care? Why are you so angry? No one is listing excuses except you and going on and on about him. He clearly gets under your skin and you can’t handle it.

Worry more about y0ur pathetic Vikings who have given you NOTHING in 55 years of pathetic failure to win a championship!

    The Vikings have ZERO Championships.

    ZERO.

  27. vikingforlife says: Jan 30, 2016 6:08 PM

Oh, it seems as though WE have gotten under YOUR skin. The Bears holding onto that 30 year old championship HAS become pathetic and EVERYONE in the league has taken notice. You can’t hold onto it any longer, guys. Put up or shut up and you can’t with that poor excuse of a QB! But hey, you want to keep him 5, 10 more years, it’s fine by all of us!

  28. campcouch says: Jan 30, 2016 6:09 PM

If this was her last request, it’s sad that her “lifelong” fandom focused on one of the better QBs in Bears history, but I’ll bet her bitter kid(s) did this instead, which is sadder.

  29. grizzly6021 says: Jan 30, 2016 6:13 PM

It’s the McCaskeys that let everyone down and ruin the Bears year in and year out. Sell the team to the Halas side of the family Virginia. Papa Bears doing somersaults in his grave.

    I’m not a Bears fan, I’m a Packer fan.

The Bears are a much better team the Vikings, their fans are classy and their history is deeply rooted in the NFL along with my Packers.

The Vikings are a joke and fans like you are exactly why your team’s fan base are the embarrassment of the NFL.

All of this still doesn’t change the fact that the Vikings have ZERO Championships.

    ZERO.

Cutler > Bridgewater and any Viking QB in the past 55 years!

you’re mad cuz Vikings so bad!

Wow, the Packers are seriously afraid of the Vikings, now, aren’t they? This is getting really good! Why, oh why, Packer fan does this bother you so much? Why bring Teddy into the argument? He hasn’t gotten countless coaches fired. He hasn’t run teammates out of town. He doesn’t try to get every call on the field , in fact he NEVER complains ONE bit! Teddy has been in the league 2 seasons and has taken his team to the payoffs and WON the NFC NORTH. What has Cutler done for you to say he is > than him?

  34. eddielionhead says: Jan 30, 2016 8:14 PM

  36. absodefinitely says: Jan 30, 2016 9:39 PM

I think Cutler is better than he gets credit for. He’s better than a lot of QB’S in the league. I think it’s funny that Packers fans are on here still talking about the Vikings. I don’t know how they can be on your mind so much. I think it really diminishes any credibility you could have when you say the Bears are better than a team they lost to twice. One of my best friends is a Bears fan, and he doesn’t have those delusions. It isn’t the end of the world that your team didn’t win the division this year, the Vikings had a better record and beat your team in GB when it counted. I could care less about any comments about the Vikes loss to Seattle in the playoffs, GB fans are just mad that for the second year in a row their defense got humiliated in the playoffs and this time got a two punch KO from Fitzgerald. I welcome all the disparaging remarks about the team and TB, saying how bad the Vikings and TB are really makes your team look awful by your logic, you let that team take the title from you in your house.

  37. thetruthcampaign says: Jan 30, 2016 9:39 PM

Cutler’s own team doesn’t respect him.

  38. respectgsh says: Jan 30, 2016 11:34 PM

Also, I just read absodefinetly’s post. Spot on! As a Bears fan I have to admit that the Vikings were the best team in the division this year. I mean we all want our team to be the best, but recognizing that your team is not the best doesn’t make you a bad fan. It just means that you are honest and rational.

  41. corvusrex96 says: Jan 31, 2016 8:07 AM

Cutler is a good QB. B/c he does his job and goes home seems to piss off the sports media that is now biased against him . Making TV commercials and giving pointless interviews does mean that you are a good person or a better QB

  42. ionlyrootforthewinningteam says: Jan 31, 2016 10:41 AM

Who cares what the trolls say. The Vikings are a good team and have an excellent defense and great coach. The Packers are still the team to beat in the NFC North. The Lions will be better with their recent changes and were already a good team before they screwed up at the beginning of this past season. The Bears are clearly the least favored team in the NFC North, but will begin to get better.

That is the reality of the current NFC North situation.

Regardless of your opinion of Jay Cutler, he presents the best option for the Bears with his skill set and contract situation (which makes him a steal in his third year.) Jay had an excellent year, easily his best this past year and that is not reflected by the Bears record. The Bears lost at least a half a dozen games by 3 points or a score and most of those games, the Bears were still in it from Jay running a 2 minute offense to keep the Bears in it with an untalented, injury stricken team.

Jay is A OK in this Bear’s fan opinion.

  43. iowahbr says: Feb 6, 2016 10:24 AM

Just surprised at these posts as usually around Super Bowl time people are arguing at the Bears site on how many angels can sit on the head of a really sharp pin.
