Broncos practice squad safety Ryan Murphy’s stay at the Super Bowl was a short one.

After Murphy was questioned by police Tuesday as part of a prostitution sting in San Jose, the Broncos sent him back to Denver.

Per a CBS Bay Area report, Murphy was not arrested but his brother was cited as part of a multi-agency effort to crack down on prostitution.

“Although practice squad safety Ryan Murphy was not cited by police, we decided it was best for the team if we continued our preparations for Super Bowl 50 without him,” Broncos coach Gary Kubiak said in a team statement. “Ryan is returning to Denver but his status as a practice squad player has not changed at this time.”

Murphy is a rookie who’s been on the Broncos practice squad since September. He’s from Oakland, but he’ll be paying his own way if he returns to the Bay Area this week.

He was a seventh round pick of the Seahawks last spring.

Shades of Eugene Robinson and the Atlanta Falcons in 1999 at Super Bowl XXXIII.

    That’s a huge embarrassment. Lol
thanks for costing me sideline seat to the super bowl and their after party for approaching those “ladies” bro

Eugene Robinson spoke to the wrong team, I guess.

And that’s why you don’t send everyone to the super bowl

  9. timegambit says: Feb 2, 2016 11:30 PM

    Prostitutes from San Jose?

He probably would have ended up on the IR list anyhow.

  10. qdog112 says: Feb 2, 2016 11:41 PM

That’s fair, send him home from a lifetime event, where he wasn’t arrested, but the guy who has had too many chances to count and had a helicopter searching for him, has a mile-long rapsheet, still has support and a job.

  11. snakeiz says: Feb 2, 2016 11:57 PM

You gotta pay;if you want to play.

  12. jjpmn says: Feb 3, 2016 12:06 AM

I can’t wait to hear Eugene Robinson’s take. Awkward.

  13. BroncosCheatedTheSalaryCap says: Feb 3, 2016 12:09 AM

The Broncos are a filthy organization. QB caught receiving HGH shipments. Von Miller caught cheating his drug test. Owner was caught paying players under the table. O-lineman caught greasing up uniforms. Numerous PED violations. Just a despicable group of cheats and bad guys. Sorry, truth hurts.

    Sigh

  17. allseeingone says: Feb 3, 2016 12:43 AM

Too bad he’s not a starter. They’d probably still let him play. Teams only punish back ups.

  18. jshawaii22 says: Feb 3, 2016 12:57 AM

and somewhere years from now, the story of him will include “former Seahawk” in the title…

  19. whodatnhollywood says: Feb 3, 2016 1:27 AM

TEMPTATION: What a disappointing story for this young player. I’m sure it’s a HUGE embarrassment to him and his family, especially considering he’s from Oakland. The enemy will show you the beginning, but it’s rare he shows you the crash landing at the end. BE WISE.

  20. ch1ggs says: Feb 3, 2016 1:52 AM

Kind of sucks for Murphy since he didn’t do anything.

  21. craniator says: Feb 3, 2016 2:12 AM

The authorities in California have no interest in combating crime committed by illegal immigrants; they’re too busy conducting entrapment stings on hard working young men like Ryan Murphy.

  22. headwoundharry says: Feb 3, 2016 2:21 AM

Haters? Murphy was really sent home because:

he was responsible for the salary cap infraction 18 years ago?

he was the bag man for Manning’s HGH?

    he accidentally called Elway Horseface?

he wanted Manning to go Needle Arm in the SB?

    what else haters?

You get a chance to go to the Super Bowl, but you cannot stay away from the sleaze.

  27. nyneal says: Feb 3, 2016 5:25 AM

If they sent every NFL player who has a liaison with a prostitute home, they wouldn’t have enough players on some teams to play a game.

Ann member. … Always get you a fall guy.

  32. Seprix says: Feb 3, 2016 8:18 AM

Probably not guilty, to be honest. If he was, he’d be in trouble by now, because he’s not a big name player.

A Broncos defender involved in something despicable? Shocking, just chocking. Tiki is flabbergasted. Brees demands an explanation. An unknown Broncos defender is going to put his nuts on Ryan Murphy’s face…

  35. Kelly's Chronicles says: Feb 3, 2016 8:32 AM

Don’t you mean “soon to be former” practice squad player”… ?

Looks like Eugene Robinson should have talked to the Broncos too…

  36. willycents says: Feb 3, 2016 8:43 AM

He was not in trouble until he told the cops, “I’m only here so I don’t get fined.”

  37. donatocha33 says: Feb 3, 2016 9:00 AM

    Hanging with Warren Sapp?

  38. keylimelight says: Feb 3, 2016 9:06 AM

Wow. You can come this close to being on a Superbowl Team, then you’re not.

  39. markpackman says: Feb 3, 2016 9:23 AM

Thinking with the wrong head again – is this guy related to Eugene Robinson? (no disrespect intended, Eugene)

  40. cs-lewis says: Feb 3, 2016 9:29 AM

    Broncos “fall-guy”.

  42. cafetero1075 says: Feb 3, 2016 9:40 AM

The guy’s brother got a hooker and they sent him home. I bet if it was DeMarcus Ware he would be starting still.

  43. cheeks9441 says: Feb 3, 2016 9:44 AM

Inoccent until proven guilty (or even charged with anything) – unless you’re a fringe player who could possibly become a Super Bowl distraction, then get the hell out of here.

  44. 2dollarpbrs says: Feb 3, 2016 9:46 AM

    Stay Classy Denver

  45. pftreader69 says: Feb 3, 2016 10:02 AM

Fortunately HGH investigations aren’t a superbowl distraction.

  46. dabceb2014 says: Feb 3, 2016 10:08 AM

Kid was made an example to the players with real money.

“… San Jose television station KPIX reported that Ryan Murphy, a Broncos practice squad safety, was questioned by San Jose poiice and released in a Tuesday sting effort, but that Murphy’s brother and a suspected prostitute were issued citations.”

If not mistaken, Adam yielded to temptation… All here free of sin?

  48. TeeHeeLOLatPatsshaters says: Feb 3, 2016 10:17 AM

I promise not to post anything here because I’m too embarrased by the actions of Chandler Jones to troll the dominant Broncos.🙂

  49. wensink18 says: Feb 3, 2016 10:41 AM

Classless organization. This smacks of yet another cover-up…like Manning’s HGH delivery.

Its too bad both of these pathetic clubs couldn’t lose the SB…. It should be over by halftime and Denver will have been crushed again.

  50. inozwetrust says: Feb 3, 2016 12:17 PM

If his name were Ware or Miller or Talib the Broncos would be promising their fans a complete and thorough investigation AFTER the Super Bowl

  51. nhpats says: Feb 3, 2016 12:33 PM

Why are the sexual activities between two consenting adults anyone else’s business? Don’t the cops have anything better to do?

  52. lambeauheap says: Feb 3, 2016 4:39 PM

Pretty sure you have to win a SB in this millennium to be considered “dominant” LOL

  53. thehighhat says: Feb 3, 2016 7:20 PM

Eugene Robinson recommends waiting until the eve of the Super Bowl and never offering more than $40 for the event. Guess Murph didn’t get the memo!
