Andy Dalton still hasn’t thrown since thumb injury

AP

If the Bengals had made it past the wild-card round, they would have needed quarterback A.J. McCarron to keep playing. And if they’d made it all the way to the Super Bowl, they apparently would have still needed McCarron.

Starter Andy Dalton, who broke a thumb in December against the Steelers, told ESPN.com on Wednesday that he still hasn’t thrown since suffering the injury.

Not throwing yet but will soon,” Dalton said, via Coley Harvey of ESPN.com. “Just being conservative with my hand and waiting for it to be officially 100 percent before I start up.”

The injury happened nearly two months ago, as Dalton made a tackle after throwing an interception.

Dalton, by the way, finally has recovered a pair of suitcases that fell off his truck on a highway in Texas. Which is good because I’m not sure I would have been able to sleep if a guy who can afford to buy new stuff hadn’t found his old stuff.

  1. 106.2 passer rating in 2015. Was on pace for 4200 yards, 37 total TDs and only 8 INTs when he went down in the 13th game. Like it or not, Andy Dalton has become a top 8 QB.

  2. what a baby. jpp is playin out there with half a hand and this read haired wuss wont even pick up a football. sad that dalton gets a fat contract but no gm will sign tebow, a guy who wants to actually play in the national football league, just because hes a Christian

  3. Just because Dalton hasn’t thrown since his injury doesn’t mean he couldn’t have thrown since his injury. As stated, he’s being conservative, obviously since there’s no need for him to throw.

  4. Really? It doesn’t matter if he can’t throw for 6 months. But I guess I could see the lifelong, die-hard Bengals fans waiting with bated breath for that news.

Now, back to the “Cam Slam” ! (my personal “dab” done strictly in honor of the NFL MVPs Superbowl performance in its’ Golden Anniversary)

  5. He’s not throwing yet because it’s February 10th and there’s nothing immediate to prepare for. I’d imagine he’d be leaning towards probable if there was a game this Sunday. Dumb story.

  6. I look forward to the return of a healthy Andy Dalton.

    Yeah… Andy Dalton was terrible.

In the five games BEFORE his injury… Dalton had 10 td – 2 int and a 113.7 QB rating.

    LOL… not that great!!!

Yeah, ok. He just ranked 2nd im the entire NFL in passer rating and was considered an MVP candidate by every major publication when he went down.

  9. Reminds me of this limerick:
A doctor fell into a well
    And broke his collarbone.
The doctor should attend to the sick.
    And leave the well alone.

Next time take a cue from Cam and let others do the job and you won’t get hurt.

  10. Also in Denver game with McCarron…missed easy field goal by Nugent to put them up 3 scores in 1st half and late hit by idiot Burfict to give them 15 yards on OT. With one of the best rosters in the league the last few years and no playoff wins, Marvin is somehow still the coach and we are all suffering.

  11. I’m pretty sure that over the entire course of his football playing life, Andy Dalton has had enough reps throwing a football that he can wait for his thumb to heal properly before going back to training and conditioning.

  12. Bengals could and should of beaten the SB champs with their Backup QB in Denver. Lets be real, Dalton don’t get hurt, all the Bengal bashing is gone cause they be the SB champions right now.

    Let’s be real….Dalton couldn’t even beat the Texans…

    ______________

Lets be real, Dalton did beat the Seahawks, Steelers and Chiefs. Who did the Pats beat? They had the softest schedule in the league.

  15. 13Arod- Palmer did not have a broken thumb in his throwing hand. Plus with the way he played in playoffs maybe they would have been better off if he sat out with his injury.
