Matthew Stafford has a new position coach, and he’s a coach who comes with the endorsement of Peyton Manning.

The Lions have announced that Brian Callahan is their new quarterbacks coach. Callahan previously worked as an offensive assistant in Denver, and Manning has said he believes Callahan has an excellent coaching career ahead of him.

“Brian Callahan is going to be a top-flight quarterbacks coach, offensive coordinator, maybe head coach like his dad [Bill] at some point in the near future,” Manning said.

Callahan has spent six seasons as an assistant with the Broncos. He also spent two seasons on the coaching staff at UCLA, where he played quarterback.

The Lions have been without a quarterbacks coach since promoting Jim Bob Cooter from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator last season. Cooter and Callahan were both on the Broncos’ staff in 2013.
