The Cardinals will go to great lengths to add depth to their secondary, reaching both sides of the world with Tuesday’s signings.
Via Darren Urban of the team’s official website, the Cardinals signed veteran safety Chris Clemons and Australian import Joel Wilkinson.
The 6-foot, 190-pound Wilkinson is an Australian Rules Football player who is going to get a shot to play cornerback. He follows former 49ers running back Jarryd Hayne from down under to the NFC West. Hayne finished the year on the 49ers practice squad.
The 24-year-old Wilkinson played for the Gold Coast Suns and the Northern Blues, which proves that we’re way ahead of our friends in Australia when it comes to team nicknames.
The Cardinals have brought in Australian imports before, with punter Ben Graham playing during their recent Super Bowl run.
