For the last three years, Chip Kelly coached tight end Brent Celek in Philadelphia. Now Kelly is set to coach Celek’s younger brother in San Francisco.

Garrett Celek, a tight end who has been in San Francisco since signing with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2012, is expected to sign an extension before hitting free agency next month. Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that the sides are close to finalizing a long-term deal.

The 27-year-old Celek played in 11 games last year, starting eight and recording 19 catches for 186 yards and three touchdowns. Celek played 39 percent of the 49ers’ offensive snaps and 19 percent of their special teams plays.

Celek is coming off a high-ankle sprain that caused him to miss the last five games of the season.

  1. He certainly has been more serviceable than Vance “Stone Hands” McDonald but that’s not saying much.

Ironic that an undrafted FA from 2012 is still with the team but not a SINGLE player from the draft. No wonder York loves Baalke. I mean that’s the kind of talent evaluation that owners love to see out of their GM …… oh wait what?

  2. Why are they wearing black? Is it becuase they started bolding the black oval in the logo 10 years ago and have annointed themselves bearers of black when everone knows their colors are red, gold and yuck.

    Wannabe Raiders.

  3. @dawgman66, I don’t want Boone back. Guy has been a cancer the last two years and hasn’t even played well. Let him walk. I’d rather re-sign Ian Williams

The Raiders haven’t sniffed the playoffs in over a decade. No city or municipality seems to legitimately want them long term. Their fans are overjoyed at a losing (7-9 is winning to them).

Nobody wants to be the Raiders.
