Jeremy Mincey has elbow surgery in advance of free agency

As veteran defensive end Jeremy Mincey heads into free agency, he’s trying to regain full use of his right arm.

According to Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys defensive end had elbow surgery yesterday, in hopes of correcting a problem which bothered him all last year.

Mincey declared it a successful surgery in a social media post. He had arthroscopic surgery on the same elbow last year, but it didn’t allow him to play at his best. He didn’t have a single sack last year after leading the team with 6.0 in 2014. He can be a solid part, but he’s also 32.

“Whoever gives me the opportunity will have a very hungry player and will have a very smart player,” Mincey said late in the year. “They are going to have a very well-rounded player. I have plenty years left. I am full of energy. I plan on getting my elbow scoped where I can use it and get it straightened out where I can function.”

Mincey has been lobbying for a return to Dallas, positioning himself as the kind of leader they need in the locker room — as opposed to Greg Hardy, who wore out his welcome over the course of the year.
