Shaun King breaks silence, doesn’t say much

AP

After Shaun King of the New York Daily News released the 74-page document from a defamation lawsuit filed against Peyton Manning in 2002, King said he would do no interviews until the alleged “victim” of Manning’s alleged misbehavior told her story. She hasn’t, but King has broken his silence anyway, at least on one occasion.

King appeared Tuesday on CBS Sports Radio with Doug Gottlieb. On Wednesday’s PFT Live on NBC Sports Radio, three different clips were played and analyzed from King’s interview.

To hear the clips and the reaction to them, click here for the eight-minute snippet from Wednesday’s PFT Live.

The story has now reached the point where, absent information about the 1994 incident that was redacted from the 74-page document or someone directly involved in the 1996 incident going on the record, there’s really nothing more to add. The allegations, if true, are troubling and disturbing. But with more than a decade passed since all claims arising from the various allegations were settled, there’s no way that the allegations will be resolved in court, unless and until something happens now that makes those occurrences from 1996 relevant 20 years after the fact.

  1. Peyton should make a statement that he’ll do an interview once Shawn King pays back all the money he stole from “all black lives matter”

  2. I hear the interview, and I’ve been following his twitter outburst (many F words in between), and is clearly that he has lost his mind. Whether you want to side with the people that says Manning is a predator or with the people that says Manning didn’t do anything with malice, still is clear that Shaun King’s agenda is backfiring at him in a horrible way.

  3. Ah yes. The reaction against King is a classic case of shooting the messenger and not the guy who teabagged the doctor, covered everything up with the help of his school, and destroyed her reputation. She was the victim, not Peyton and not Archie. The school has some explaining to do, especially with the recent lawsuits against the school for aiding and abetting the rapists on the football team.

  4. Still waiting for a “These accusations are totally false” statement or something similar from Payton… Guessing we’ll be waiting a while…

  5. I don’t like or favor Manning. He could be guilty of all of the above.

I can’t stand irresponsible journalists, especially since most of them can make a living doing it nowadays, so it is treated with a callus disregard for the truth.

LOL, shooting the messenger? The messenger is shooting himself everything he open his mouth or use his twitter. Now, how the “victim” went from a student exposed himself (mooning) in 1996 to a student made contact in 2002(teabagging) is beyond me. As for her outstanding reputation, she filed 33 complains back in the 90s against staff at the UofT (one of those complains being Manning), so the story about Manning destroying her reputation is grossly overrated.

  7. “she filed 33 complains back in the 90s against staff at the UofT (one of those complains being Manning)”

Do you have a source for this?

  8. Shaun King rehashed this old story in relation with how the media focused on Cam’s performance during and after the SB. So now we focus on Peyton past behavior. With some people it’s all about race.

  9. I have no care about Manning’s reputation or he takes a hit for something from 20 years ago but this Shaun King sounds like a media hack and true slime ball.

Ripping people off at a charity and attacking them after you get exposed, wow! I just read up on the guy, how is he employed by any news outlet after that?

  11. As I’ve said with Brady, Big Ben, etc., I hope that us fans stay reasonable and let the courts and lawyers duke it out; then we can react appropriately at the jurisdiction.

But man, how many days till the season starts…?

  12. Poor King. Not only did his boy Cam lose the championship after a season of dancing and posing, but he admitted he cowered from recovering a fumble in the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl because he didn’t want to get hurt.

  13. He was on Stephen A. Smith’s show on Sirius today too. The guy is horrible and is constantly contradicting himself.

  14. I couldn’t care less about whether or not King is a sleaze or what his motivation might be for bringing this Manning story back into the light.

What is troubling is that regardless of King’s “words”, Manning’s actions (during the assault and subsequent defamation) appear to be that of a total scumbag and the actions of his father (including racist comments) appear to be reprehensible. And too many people (above posters) seem to be OK with that.

Although the messenger in this instance may be a sleaze, this is indeed a classic case of shooting the messenger.

  15. Google Peyton Manning 2010 sexual assault.. According to New Orleans PD he allegedly assaulted a female during the week of the Super Bowl and that was apparently his 3rd time being accused of sexual assault.

  16. Shaun King is a HUGE racist… He needs to go away.. all he does is promote hate… he has basically implied that any white person is a racist… He just needs to be done. NO room for racism in the press… period.

You mis-read the source. It doesn’t say she filed 33 complaints. It says her one complaint against Tennessee included 33 claims, which isn’t at all unusual for a claim of workplace harassment––or many other types of legal complaint, for that matter.

  18. Good interview! Shaun King got nailed for selling allegations as facts. This must sound familiar to Pats fans. So, Manning should do what Brady did. Nothing! Don’t say a friggin word until such time as you are required to by rule or law.

I have no doubt Kings dug this up because of what he perceived to be unfair treatment of Cam after the SB.

My apologies, I misinterpreted the articles, but from what I read only one of the 33 claims was about the PM incident.

  20. Shaun King is a white guy with white family trying to have everyone think he’s black.
He comes up with garbage look back at his other stuff that he has written.
