As a 1997 Heisman finalist continues to ponder whether he’ll retire, the guy who won the trophy that year already has moved on to his next job.

ESPN has announced that Charles Woodson has joined the company as an NFL analyst. He will participate in Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night Countdown.

It’s believed Woodson will be replacing Keyshawn Johnson on both shows. ESPN has not yet announced that Johnson will be departing. has reported that Johnson’s expiring contract won’t be renewed.

Industry insiders believe more changes are coming to ESPN’s NFL coverage, with fixtures like Chris Berman and Mike Ditka possibly out after 2016.

Ditka is out as soon as Rex Ryan is fired from the Bills.

“Oh – so that’s how he gets all those catches.” -Keyshawn Johnson, re: Marvin Harrison, 2003

2016: Marvin is in the Hall. Keyshawn is heading down the hall, and out.

replace Keyshawn with Woodson, fire Carter, let Ditka retire and there you have it… your new NFL Countdown staff…. waaay too much dead wood on that set.

  4. jason9696 says: Feb 18, 2016 10:15 AM

Mike Ditka looks like he’s about to fall a sleep all the time on that show.

  5. karmathaitch says: Feb 18, 2016 10:17 AM

How bout firing everyone. Just shut the whole show down!

  6. teamgale88 says: Feb 18, 2016 10:19 AM

Carter has to go, Lewis was an equally dumb hire. Woodson should make it somewhat watchable…hardly

  7. tajuara says: Feb 18, 2016 10:20 AM

He could be a good football analyst, but in all seriousness, who watched ESPN anymore? Or NFL Gameday Morning for that matter.

  8. alpo3744 says: Feb 18, 2016 10:26 AM

Berman is just awful. His schtick was old in the mid 90s

  9. tajuara says: Feb 18, 2016 10:27 AM

He may bring good points of view to the table, but he will not bring credibility, that ship has long sailed for ESPN…

  10. revelation123 says: Feb 18, 2016 10:28 AM

Having one of the best, if not the best DB of all time as a commentator will be a treat. Much better than Meyshawn.

  11. excusemewhileiwhipthisoutagain says: Feb 18, 2016 10:28 AM

    Berman gone? About time.

  12. atthemurph says: Feb 18, 2016 10:30 AM

I hope he wears his Super Bowl ring on each broadcast so Vikings fans can see what one looks like.

  13. woodbridgekid73 says: Feb 18, 2016 10:37 AM

They should put him in the booth during games

  14. duanethomas33 says: Feb 18, 2016 10:46 AM

Berman is past his prime -Out

Dikta, has to go, as he is already having senior moments-Out

Tom Jackson, if Berman is gone, his job of being the laugh track is over-Out

Carter, the resident hip culture player, who isn’t “He’s bapping, it called the bap”.-Out

ESPN has a opportunity to start anew, they should sooner rather than later.

I haven’t watch sunday NFL countdown since keyshawn has been on there I guess I can watch it again I that guy is a tool.

  16. Akula says: Feb 18, 2016 10:54 AM

He deserves better Than ESPN. Maybe CSPAN or PBS.

  17. ariani1985 says: Feb 18, 2016 11:13 AM

But, but, but, but, but packer fans were saying that he would come back to green Bay for the league minimum?

  18. steelerstrong says: Feb 18, 2016 11:14 AM

Will not watch that show again until Berman is gone. Because HE is unwatchable.

  19. pastabelly says: Feb 18, 2016 11:33 AM

He has no experience. This is just ESPN throwing more darts at the dart board. Schefter is informative. Stephen A is entertaining. Caliendo is too. The rest of it is a snooze fest.

  20. thingamajig says: Feb 18, 2016 11:34 AM

Why wait until contracts run out. Is ESPN too cheap to eat one contract year? Pay them off now and fire both Berman and Dikta.

  21. jimjets says: Feb 18, 2016 11:48 AM

    Caliendo, schefter are good.

berman HAS to go….. his act got tired ten years ago

  22. jimjets says: Feb 18, 2016 11:49 AM

and if i heard them call that guy “key” one more time…

  23. joetoronto says: Feb 18, 2016 11:53 AM

I love CWood but I can’t watch that show, especially the fat pig, Tom Jackson.

  24. It Takes 3 Mannings To Equal One Brady says: Feb 18, 2016 12:01 PM

They had a chance to get rid of a guy who has nice things to say about the Patriots in favor of someone that has a grudge because of the Tuck Rule. Of course ESPN jumped on that. Watching these clowns is comical. Whenever Tom “This team hates their coach” Jackson has to pick the Patriots it looks like someone kicked him in the nuts right before making the pick. Carter hates the Patriots. Ditka hates the Patriots depending on which day of the week it is, I’m not sure he is all there all the time. And Berman’s schtick was tired in 2002…

  25. westcoastraider says: Feb 18, 2016 1:27 PM

I think I may be the only one that still enjoys Berman, I like when he says Da Raaaaaiiiiiidaaasss

  26. pftwd3 says: Feb 18, 2016 4:50 PM

Am I the only one who thinks Chris Berman is hot? What’s wrong with everybody nowadays?

  27. rayguyhof says: Feb 18, 2016 6:29 PM

Never watch that or any “pregame” show. However, I now have a reason to record it and FF through everything except when CWood speaks.

  28. digitalsasquatch says: Feb 19, 2016 10:33 AM

Promote Stink to Sunday mornings, and hire Jared Allen, too (but don’t make him wear a suit).

  29. raiders757 says: Feb 19, 2016 1:47 PM

BSPN is a shameful tabloid network that doesn’t deserve someone as classy as Charles Woodson. Their NFL coverage is complete and utter garbage. It surprises me that anyone bothers watching that channel anymore.
