Giants grab wide receiver from Europe

We’ve seen a handful of players from Europe get looks from NFL teams as part of their expanded offseason rosters and the Giants are bringing another one across the pond this year.

According to multiple reports, the Giants have signed French wide receiver Anthony Dable’. Dable’, who is listed at 6’5″ and 215 pounds, last played for the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions, who, like the Giants, don’t actually play in New York.

They play in Germany, where they’ve won the league in each of the last three seasons and they also won the Eurobowl last season after losing in the title game in 2014. Dable’ had 145 catches and 32 touchdowns for the Lions over the last two seasons.

As you can see in this highlight video, it’s a big step up from the German league to the NFL and Dable’ is going to face an uphill battle to wind up making the Giants roster in September.

But does he make one-handed catches?

How come the Giants and Jets always get the needle for not playing in NYC … but the Orchard Park Bills and Arlington Cowboys don’t?

^ boo. That’s all you got on this one. I was hoping that my talent-starved team signing French WRs would bring out the best from the haters.

He will as soon as he puts on the “easy to catch a golf ball hit by Dustin Johnson” gloves they’re using today.

The NFL made a huge mistake in ceasing to support the Euro leagues and continue to blow it by not having a minor league. They’re probably mad that the Euros wouldn’t give them free stadiums.

Because the Giants and Jets don’t even play in the state of New York.

The Skins don’t play in DC. And considering the proximity of East Rutherford to Manhattan, the Giants and Jets are far closer to their named city than most teams that have stadiums in the suburbs of their named city – you can *see* NYC from MetLife.

As far as Dablé, his size would only make him a red zone threat considering his (lack of) experience. NFL corners and safeties would probably have little trouble with him in the open field. And then, most teams want a big TE for those red zone jump balls for the beef as well as the height.

“Because the Giants and Jets don’t even play in the state of New York.”

So what? 29 teams in the NFL are city-based. The Pats are regional. The Panthers are ummmm something. Only Minnesota is State-based. The obvious conclusion is that State doesn’t matter. Duh.

  22. justintuckrule says: Feb 18, 2016 12:04 PM

They’re not the NY Giants or NY Jets because they represent the STATE of New York. The NY moniker is about the city. Therefore, it is no different than the numerous other teams who play outside the city they represent. If anything, those other teams are worse. The Giants play 5 miles away from the CITY they represent. How far is Santa Clara from SF? Don’t you have to take a plane from one to the next?

The Cowboys don’t play in Oklahoma and the Bills don’t play in Pennsylvania.

The Giants and Jets are (?NY Teams?) yet play in New Jersey. HUGE DIFFERENCE! In fact, they don’t train or have any official locations with NY. Everything is in New Jersey. THAT’S WHY!

I live in a NYC borough and get to MetLife in 20 minutes.

A lot of people like to hate on NY because they are jealous and/or angry.

Someone has to be the biggest market in the country.

Looked like I was watching a high school game. Thanks for the video. Now I know for sure that the european leagues are up there with the NFL.

Move the Jags or Browns over there. Then they will have a chance.

You need to conduct some research as to why they retain their names and where they began operations, smart guys.

Wait, was that film of him with his high school team? Either way, good for him but he should realize if he just waited another year he could have joined the Jags in London. Would have been much closer to home for at least 10 games a year.
