Colts release Jonathan Newsome after marijuana arrest

If Jonathan Newsome is going to play his music too loud in the vicinity of marijuana, he’s apparently going to be doing it somewhere other than Indianapolis.

The just-arrested linebacker tweeted out what appears to be a goodbye to the Colts, thanking coach Chuck Pagano and General Manager Ryan Grigson for the opportunity.

It’s also interesting that he wrote “I have made mistakes, but ive [sic] grown.”

Since then, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that Newsome has been released.

Of course, this was the week after he was arrested for possession of marijuana, which cops found when they came to his home to investigate a noise complaint. This came three weeks after they came to his house to investigate a noise complaint, and found marijuana.

So if he had learned and grown from his first mistake (someone else was arrested that night, Cris Carter will be proud), he might still be employed by the Colts.

As a guy who has shown pass-rush potential, he might find someone to take him in. But he’s also had multiple marijuana-related incidents, so anyone that does will be doing so with the knowledge he could be facing league punishment.

  1. Oh no! This guy was listening to music and smoking some marijuanna! Such a menace to society, somebody needs to go to jail..

He should sign up with Denver or Seattle, and then he wouldn’t have any issues with the law aside from being told to turn his music down.

  2. There are plenty “dope smokers” with brains, Doctors, lawyers, successful business men, just to name a few. The laws against marijuana are ancient and should be modified, not just in a handful of states, but in all 50 states…

  3. One of the few but growing trend of Millennial Affluenza & Arrogance Syndrome carriers that are at least partially paying the price for their self inflicted disease. I hope the count keeps growing.
And he’s no worse than the “With brains, doctors, lawyers and successful businessmen” that doubleogator references. If they are committing a crime then they are all guilty of as stupid does.

  4. I say this every single time I see a story like this; man, that weed must be REALLY GOOD if they’re willing to pay millions of dollars for it.

  5. They take urine tests for street drugs once a year in July (unless they’ve been popped before for weed or similar)… So they can smoke pretty much 11 months out of 12 every year…..IF THEY CAN STAY OUT OF TROUBLE!

Affluenza case is a hoax just to get the sheep outraged…

  7. We may all think we know how to act if it was any one of us…not for the weed but for the riches and fame. He should know his employer’s requirements for staying employed. He missed that part. He’ll get another job.

  8. Pick him up. EVERYBODY is going ro be suspended by this commissioner at some point. It’s just a hurdle each team has to overcome. Like an injury.

It’s no longer necessary to even use the term “suspended”, just list “Goodell” behind the name on the injury report.
