DeMarcus Ware could be asked to take a pay cut, or get cut

Indianapolis Colts v Denver Broncos

The first expensive veteran the Broncos need to get off their books for 2016 is quarterback Peyton Manning. The second may be outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware.

Ware, who will turn 34 this offseason, is scheduled to count $11.7 million against the Broncos’ 2016 salary cap. With Von Miller’s franchise tag due to check in at $13.4 million, the Broncos may decide they’re not willing to spend $25.1 million on two players at one position.

Jeff Legwold of ESPN reports that if Miller doesn’t want to re-work his deal, there’s a chance he’ll be gone. Legwold also points to the possibility that Ware, who has a history of back and neck injuries, could choose to retire.

Manning and Ware were the offensive and defensive captains of the Super Bowl champs. They may both be elsewhere in 2016.
