Broncos sign a guy with more addresses than receptions

ST. LOUIS, MO - SEPTEMBER 3: Richard Gordon #89 of the Kansas City Chiefs makes a catch against Bryce Hager #54 of the St. Louis Rams in the fourth quarter during a pre-season game at the Edward Jones Dome on September 3, 2014 in St. Louis, Missouri. Richard Gordon has more teams than catches in his NFL career.

But that should also tell you something about the role teams want him to play.

The Broncos signed the journeyman blocking tight end yesterday, bringing him back after a short stint with the team last year.

He has four receptions for 14 yards and a touchdown (from then-Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer in a comeback win over the Steelers in 2012) in his five NFL seasons.

He began with the Raiders as a sixth-round pick, and has also spent time with the Steelers, Chiefs, Titans, Chiefs again, Broncos, Ravens and now Broncos again.

Gordon was with the Broncos for five games last season, but was waived in December when injuries left them short at other positions. He then did a short stint with the Ravens but was cut the week before Christmas.

That’s gotta suck. You are with a team. they waive you 3/4 of the way thru the season. Then they win the SB. Then they bring you back.
So now he is like the only guy on the team without a SB ring.

Think he’s probably just pretty happy to be getting an NFL paycheck.

So what happens to Virgil Green? Maybe their finally going to throw a few balls his way. He seems to catch them all.

Traditionally .. everyone who was on a team in a given year gets a ring. Ultimately it’s up to the team, but that’s usually the way its done.

That’s some dedication to become an NFL football player. He’ll never be the star, but you always want guys like Gordon who will never quit. Hope he makes it.

He began with the Raiders as a sixth-round pick, and has also spent time with the Steelers, Chiefs, Titans, Chiefs again, Broncos, Ravens and now Broncos again.
