Broncos optimistic long-term deal will get done with Von Miller

The top free agent on the board may sign a new contract before free agency starts.

The Broncos are pushing for a long-term contract extension for pass rusher Von Miller and are optimistic that a deal will get done, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

There are no details on what kind of financial terms a long-term deal would have, but Miller will certainly be looking for something that makes him one of the highest-paid players in the NFL. After capping a strong 2015 season with an MVP-winning performance in the Super Bowl, it’s hard to argue against that kind of deal.

Rapoport notes that if the Broncos can get a deal done with Miller, it would open the possibility of using the franchise tag on quarterback Brock Osweiler. But it’s also possible that the Broncos could use the franchise tag on defensive lineman Malik Jackson. The Broncos have a lot of work to do in free agency, but the highest priority is getting a deal with Miller done.

I’m sure the best GM in pro sports today will find a way to keep the necessary talent.

If that problem child named Suh was worth a buck twenty, Miller must at least be in that ball park as the game’s premier edge rusher.

I love the fact that Peyton Manning can’t announce his retirement because of all that bad press lol.

Serves him right. What a creepy individual.

I’m guessing that’s suppose to be a joke or you just want your team to sign Von

I’m sure that Mr. Edway will find a way to circumvent the cap and keep the necessary talent. The Broncos are experienced with this kind of subterfuge. Of course, it helps that the league lacks the stones to impose anything more than a slap on the wrist. It would totally be worth the loss of a third round pick and $95oK (8 years later) to be able to resign both Miller and Jackson.

The Broncos should be more worried about signing Peyton to a few more years. He makes every better including Von. They would not have won the Super Bowl without Peyton. I don’t know why Vin is getting all the credit. Peyton should have won the MVP. LOL.

Pretty sure we know how this ends. Miller gets paid under the table like Elway and Davis were paid when they won those tainted SBs in the late 90s. Sorry Denver, you lost multiple draft picks and were assigned the biggest fine in NFL history – circumventing the cap will always tarnish the organization’s history.

I wonder if Miller will get caught bribing the PED urine tester again.

Since cheating on salary cap worked so well for Broncos, Miller decided to try and bribe the nfl urine tester and it’s going to work out very well for him also. I guess it’s the bronco way.

  20. cowboysallday says: Feb 25, 2016 1:02 PM

How do they have all of this money? Von likely to be the highest paid defensive player, they’re throwing Jackson 10 a year, they got Thomas and talib on pretty big contracts and they still have to pay Brock

  21. dstreibigsdose says: Feb 25, 2016 1:33 PM

Get a long term deal done with Miller OR Brock
Franchise which ever one doesn’t get a long term deal
    Re-sign Trevethan
Compete for a title again next year
Jackson needs to be the odd man out. They have more good pass rushers than LBs,

  22. tylawspick6 says: Feb 25, 2016 1:37 PM

Elway is moron. This is the same guy that got hoodwinked by Dumervil with the fax excuse and it will likely happen again because he has no leverage.

He’s like a drunken sailor knee jerking every move.

Just horrendous salary allocation and budgeting.

  23. tylawspick6 says: Feb 25, 2016 1:40 PM

The whole team is on Gomert’s undetectable roids from the Guyer Institute.

That’s not going away, folks. The Feds will be in on that and the collusion between Goodell and other AFC owners/GMs.

Elway is a fraud and a clear cheater.

Cooking the books like this right in front of the entire league, should command an immediate audit.

  24. raidernation37 says: Feb 25, 2016 2:12 PM

Von Miller is going to get paid, no doubt about it, but I’m curious as to how they’re going to manage to keep Jackson and Trevathan plus sign Osweiler. Obviously as a Raider fan I’m hoping they can’t sign everyone but that defense is scary good and fun to watch

  25. denverdave3 says: Feb 25, 2016 2:33 PM

Based on Von’s past, the deal needs to have a couple outs in case he screws up off the field again. Absent that, he’s convinced me he’s grown up. I’d say pay him JJ Watt money and hope he remains healthy and motivated for a few years.

  26. therick5000 says: Feb 25, 2016 2:36 PM

Let’s see how can I put this. Oh I got it..the Broncos are Super Bowl champs. #1 in the world. Circumvent that.

  27. patsfan112 says: Feb 25, 2016 3:20 PM

I’m sure they’ll find a way to cheat the salary cap like always.

  28. broncosrchamps says: Feb 25, 2016 4:36 PM

If you ain’t cheating you ain’t trying hard enough.

    Signed John Elway.

  29. broncosrchamps says: Feb 25, 2016 4:37 PM

Hey Pats fans are you looking forward to the draft where because you cheat so bad the league had to take a first and fourth round pick from you?

  30. broncoscheatedthesalarycapisadouche says: Feb 25, 2016 4:52 PM

Yes. They’ll cheat the books as much as your team still illegally videos other teams and destroys their cell phones as evidence.

    Pats fans = hypocrites
