Report: Ravens expected to sign Trent Richardson, pending physical

Indianapolis Colts v Cleveland Browns Getty Images

If you’re drafted high enough, you’re going to continue to get chances, no matter what you’ve done — or not done.

The latest guy to get a chance he may or may not deserve is running back Trent Richardson.

According to Matt Zenitz of AL.com, the former No. 3 overall pick is expected to sign with the Ravens, pending a physical.

Richardson was out of football last year after getting cut by the Raiders, though he’s had some scattered workouts since last summer. He was checked out by the Bills and Broncos previously.

Since a moderately productive rookie year with the Browns, he’s been a disaster. He averaged 3.3 yards per carry for the Colts after they gave up a first-round pick to acquire him.

For the Ravens, it’s a no-risk look at a guy who once was OK, though there’s no indication things are going to be different this year.

Come on Ravens, please don’t waste time on this guy. Hell, I’d rather see Rice given another chance than this clown.

Ryan Leaf, Ravens on line one for you….

  4. myeaglescantwin says: Feb 25, 2016 11:46 AM

how can he be signed before the FA period.

I see a few teams picking up CFl players too.
Are there stipulations on the status of players?

I’m psychic, was thinking about this dude. Hope he starts running with his eyes open.

    Best of luck.

    Sign him you losers.

  7. touchdownroddywhite says: Feb 25, 2016 11:51 AM

Maybe the guy has dedicated himself to getting back in shape and playing hard? Could be a steal. If not, gone within first couple cuts.

The awkward moment when Trent richarding get another chance over ray rice smh 😣

Came to troll the Ravens but I think with this signing they troll themselves.

    Go Steelers!

Dear Trent, save your signing bonus….

  11. 6thsense10 says: Feb 25, 2016 12:05 PM

How can a running back that almost every team graded so high before he was drafted be so bad?

But most importantly how can he continue getting opportunity after opportunity?

Any free agent can be signed at any time, I believe- it’s the players who’s contracts are set to end March 9 that can’t be signed yet.

    The old Browns, being Browns….lol

  16. suhmonster90 says: Feb 25, 2016 12:09 PM

I’m sure they can find a more affordable tackling dummy.

No chance he ends up a factor come regular season.

Well Dig Dug gets another chance

  18. diegosteel says: Feb 25, 2016 12:13 PM

The Great Ozzie at work…CHAMPIONSHIP!!! hahahaha

  19. coltzfan166 says: Feb 25, 2016 12:14 PM

    @myeaglescantwin

Because he’s not a “pending” free agent currently under contract with anyone else. He has been free to sign with anyone since the Raiders released him.

  20. @Cereal_5 says: Feb 25, 2016 12:14 PM

Bringing in a talented guy for a tryout,,,nothing hurt. The guy seems to lack vision…can’t find the holes, I’m not sure that can be fixed ??

  21. hanspard says: Feb 25, 2016 12:17 PM

People get way too goofy about these signings, like the Ravens are idiots for doing it. It’s a camp body deal, no different than when they sign some former practice squad guy who once played for Alaska Tech A&M or wherever. Why not do the deal? No risk.

  22. bringmemysoiledfool says: Feb 25, 2016 12:18 PM

    Well that ain’t good.

  23. troy43mvp says: Feb 25, 2016 12:21 PM

That could turn out to be a nice 1 – 1.25 punch.

  24. pittsburghdamned says: Feb 25, 2016 12:24 PM

    Hahahahaha

Only the Ravens would sign this guy

  25. kepdogg23 says: Feb 25, 2016 12:32 PM

What was his signing bonus? 1,000 cheeseburgers?

  26. imodan says: Feb 25, 2016 12:32 PM

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

  27. baltimoresnativeson says: Feb 25, 2016 12:33 PM

I’m an Ozzie fan but he is becoming irritating with the Alabama crap.

  28. coltzfan166 says: Feb 25, 2016 12:38 PM

Now that we’re floating this guy’s name around again, I’m a little surprised the Browns haven’t tried to bring him back, not even on a veteran minimum, nothing guaranteed salary. That just sounds like something the Browns would do

  29. imsomeguy says: Feb 25, 2016 12:42 PM

And I thought Lacy had eaten this guy…

  30. belbobelbo says: Feb 25, 2016 12:45 PM

Man, steeler fans out in force. 40% of ravens wins last year were against the steelers!

  32. TebowedOutOfThePostSeasonAndNeverToReturn says: Feb 25, 2016 12:58 PM

Richardson is going to be the steal of the year. Once again, Colbert gets caught snoozing. Maybe he was too busy smoking weed with Bell and Williams in the recovery rooom. LOL.

And the Colts traded a first round pick for Richardson. Probably best to lay off the Browns. Then again, the Browns used that pick to trade up for Manziel. Okay, both teams front offices are dreadful.

  34. steelerben says: Feb 25, 2016 1:06 PM

Last off season the Raven’s signed Matt Schaub to back up Flacco, and fans all said, “Flacco is an iron man that never misses games, it doesn’t matter who the backup is.”

Best of luck in history not repeating itself with Richardson becoming the lead back.

  35. 12brichandfamous says: Feb 25, 2016 1:08 PM

I think the physical will find he can’t play football

  36. williamshatnerstoupee says: Feb 25, 2016 1:09 PM

The team that wears the black and gold continues to live rent free.

  37. tomtravis76 says: Feb 25, 2016 1:11 PM

Given another opportunity after embarrassing himself, one would think he would be in the best shape of his life, study everything he can about the Ravens offense or be content with knowing you couldn’t do it in the league.

  38. theghostofberniekosar says: Feb 25, 2016 1:11 PM

hahaha..well you know what they say:

    Um, sweep? That is all.

  40. whodey420 says: Feb 25, 2016 1:21 PM

The Ravens aren’t in too good of shape cap wise. Roughly they’ve got about $6.3 million in cap space as of now with 56 players signed. What they need to do is get some relief by redoing Flacco’s contract, signing Tucker to a long term deal so they don’t have to use the franchise tag on him and concentrate on upgrading their OL. Kelechi Osemele should be their main focus followed by Courtney Upshaw, who if I’m not mistaken is also a free agent. Ozzie has his work cut out for him! He can’t afford to miss in the 1st round this year. Did Perriman even play last year? The guy has the size/speed you want in a WR but he has to be ON the field to do anything. That definitely hurt his development because coming out of college he had questionable hands and suspect route running to begin with. Matt Elam, (2013 1st round pick) has basically disappeared.

Richardson is probably not much more than training camp fodder.

  41. laserw says: Feb 25, 2016 1:23 PM

Perfect person for the Ravens. Pure garbage.

  42. bunkmcnulty says: Feb 25, 2016 1:28 PM

Love my Ravens and Ozzie, but this is just dumb. If we’re signing former Browns, I’d take Jim Brown at 80 over this dude.

  43. ragnarthemagnificent says: Feb 25, 2016 1:29 PM

they’d be better off to sign Trent Dilfer

  44. fordmandalay says: Feb 25, 2016 1:38 PM

I really need someone to explain this to me….using simple words….

  45. excusemewhileiwhipthisoutagain says: Feb 25, 2016 1:45 PM

I guess the old waterboy must have suffered a career ending injury. Good luck on your new career Trent!

  46. mrdot1 says: Feb 25, 2016 2:18 PM

If he makes it through training camp, the Ravens are in worse shape than they let on.

I’m with whoever said they’d rather Ray Rice get another shot than this clown.

  47. triggerdawg says: Feb 25, 2016 4:55 PM

Hey tebow,or maybe the Oz was in the training room smoking weed with Trent and nick Boyle !once again what a joke.carry on.

  48. deucedeuce13 says: Feb 25, 2016 6:05 PM

Hes the 6th rb on the roster . You act like this means anything…

  49. nflgtcfl says: Feb 25, 2016 7:28 PM

No signing bonus or guaranteed money.

Bring him to camp as a body. If he has improved the last while sign him on the cheap. Otherwise cut him. Cut him early if necessary to bring in some youth.

    Not necessarily a big deal.

  50. crownofthehelmet says: Feb 25, 2016 8:15 PM

A running back that has no vision. That’ll go nicely with their QB that can’t throw, TE’s that can’t catch, and o-line that can’t block.

  51. sbchampsagain says: Feb 25, 2016 9:55 PM

Richardson will be the 6th rb on the roster and be paid league minimum.

    Nice no-risk pickup.

Nothing like having a first round pick as a camp body. If the guy regains rookie form he wil make a nice 4th RB for the Ravens behind J Forsett, L Taliaferro and B Allen.

  52. bebopa says: Feb 25, 2016 11:10 PM

    No risk for the Ravens.
