Pete Carroll, Seahawks reportedly talking about extension

CHARLOTTE, NC - JANUARY 17: Head coach Pete Carroll of the Seattle Seahawks looks on against the Carolina Panthers in the 2nd quarter during the NFC Divisional Playoff Game at Bank of America Stadium on January 17, 2016 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is heading into the final year of his contract and work is reportedly underway to make sure that’s not the case when it comes time to play the 2016 season.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Seahawks and Carroll are working on an extension that would extend his stay with the team he coached to the first Super Bowl title in franchise history. There’s not much reason to believe that those talks will result in anything other than a deal.

Curtis Crabtree of PFT and KJR points out that Carroll was asked about his contract on several occasions during the season and the coach answered by saying that he wasn’t worried about it because he “was in great shape.” Carroll is 60-36 since becoming Seahawks coach in 2010 and has led the team to the playoffs five times, including the last four seasons.

He’s also already among the best-paid coaches in the league, so keeping him at that level shouldn’t prove to be a stumbling block as the two sides work toward a new agreement.

Ellen Degeneres and his gum chewing deserve an extension…extension for being the shortest lived dynasty ever, and calling the dumbest play in professional sports. I’d make fun of Seattle fans, too, but I’ve already made fun of all 6 of them.

He needs to be among the highest paid coaches just to keep him in chewing gum.

One of the best coaches to ever set foot on the field and we here in Seattle are lucky to have him… Of course you will get all kinds of jealous idiots that will chime in but the bottom line is coach Carroll is creating a dynasty that will include more Lombardi’s in the near future.

Thank you coach Carroll, we love you in Seattle and proud to have you here!!!

    GO HAWKS

Stop it. You know you’ve been a fan since 2012. Just let it out, man. Just let the anger go. We don’t care that you’re a bandwagon fan. Most of the cute, little “12’s” are anyways.

This is why I can’t stand Seattle “fans”. Your team didn’t even come up with their own name, man! ” Seattle didn’t invent the “Seahawks” moniker. A (now defunct) Miami-based pro football team briefly used it during the 1940s.”
And you ripped off Texas A&M, too. Pathetic.

As a Pats fan, Carroll is somewhat of an enigma. He took over a super bowl team from Parcells and in 3 years turned it into a .500 team. Then was fired and replaced by Belichick.

Now with Seattle he is an elite coach. If we didn’t have Belichick now Pats fans might be wishing he was still our coach.

  14. themage78 says: Feb 26, 2016 4:36 PM

No longer has a cheap QB or defense. Also lost their best offensive weapon this offseason. Probably will lose Irvin this offseason too. Going to be hard to come back when the team is falling apart.

You bet Pete “benefited” from a really good roster. A really good roster he and John S built from the ground up. His first few seasons he made more roster changes than many teams combined.

If you hate the Seahawks, who cares? May I suggest the next time you want to slam them in a comment, perhaps you should check your facts.

This is good news for the elite NFC teams. Pete’s Seattle D is no longer to be feared. They got shredded routinely last year. At home. In the 4th quarter! Look it up – it’s all on the stat sheets.

All of Schneider’s draft gems got paid, got soft, had babies and are nowhere near as aggressive as they once were.

I guess he has his detractors – but as a hawks fan, he took a dead-in-the-water team, completely turned over that roster, and has made them relevant for the last 5 years.

Hiring him and Schneider changed everything. Happy for him to coach the hawks for as long as he wants.

Those “stat sheets” show that the Seahawks defense was 1st in points allowed (for the 4th straight year), 1st in rush yards allowed, 2nd in pass yards allowed, and 2nd in total yards allowed.

This site is filled with dummy’s troll each other. Do half of you even watch football?

Pete Carroll and John Schneider should be up for Coach/GM of the year but they don’t get mentioned at all because everyone expects Seattle to be a top team.

Pete has 2 guys former defensive coordinators now active NFL head coaches. Kris Richard, Tom Cable or Bevell could all be up next year. Even if one of them makes it that’s impressive.

    ****************************************************

Where to begin…….Coach Carroll and John Schneider built the current roster and within two years of their coming into the front office, almost everyone on the previous roster was replaced. They benefit from a “really good roster” that they built and coached up. That is the pure definition of his job and why the extension should happen….NHPats is trying to slam Coach Carroll when in fact he simply is making the argument on his value……

RevRen10 talks about “PEDS” which is a non issue with the current roster and players. He also points to “illegal holding” which is a subjective line that all pro players need to understand and play under. It isn’t illegal if not called. The yellow flag isn’t thrown if done correctly and the great players adjust to the game flow and what the Ref Crew sets as the line. There isn’t anything “illegal” about it.

Finally, I think it is great that so many new fans around the world are joining so many of the original Seattle Seahawk Fans, of which I am…..Exaggerating that it is “99.9%” is such a huge distortion that it loses its thunder. My guess is that some 30-40% of Seahawk fans are relative converts…..I welcome whatever that number and hope that it continues to grow.

Regarding the actual blog subject; Good. Look forward to Coach and staff, et. al. running the show for many years to come.

Carrol & Schneider are a team. They know what they want and how to coach it. In my mind they will be like the Pats and have a solid team every year and win more than their share of games and titles. Look back at some of the dynasties and you will see the same formula between the GM and the Coach.

  40. kylexitron says: Feb 26, 2016 9:32 PM

Haha niners guy enjoy chip Kelly.

Hope you liked your short lived success because you’ll be looking for a coach and a QB every year for the next decade while Pete and Russell run you out of your own stadium.

Since Wilson has been the QB it should be noted that the 49ers are 2-7 against Seattle with the only two wins some one score victories eeked out at the ‘Stick years ago. It’s almost funny to think this was ever considered a great rivalry. Since being proclaimed as such , the Rams and Cardinals have both been better competition.

    —————
Terry Glenn was drafted in the Parcells era actually, 1996. It was famously against his will and prompted the memorable line “If they hire you to cook the dinner, they should at least let you pick the groceries.”

The Patriots have not used a 1st round pick for a wide receiver since.

Of the 32 NFL teams, how many have been to 2 – divisional playoff games & 2 Super Bowls, winning 1 (Lynch makes it 2) all in the past 4 years?

Past couple of years, it’s always Seattle won’t make the playoffs = back to the SB. Then, SB losers don’t make the playoffs = back to the playoffs. Now op fans are saying in 1-2-3 years we’ll be middle of the pack.

Stop already. This team keeps finding gems like Thomas Rawls UDFA & a 3rd round steal in Tyler Lockett. Both on the all-rookie team. The train isn’t being derailed anytime soon, so get used to the express blasting by a stadium near you.

You would hope a head coach benefits from their roster. Especially since Pete is the guy who built it.

People tend to forget he’s also V.P. of Football Operations. So he’s pretty much in charge of everything. Even the GM.

  52. samapoc says: Feb 27, 2016 5:59 AM

Pete Carroll has created more single-year dynasties than anyone. It’s comical but he’s clearly the best at selling a fan base what they want.

On the other hand, he should get at least $4-5M a year. His team has been successful. Not dynasty level but better than the money proposed above. Heck $3-4M is what college coaches make at bigger programs.

  53. rootpain says: Feb 27, 2016 8:39 AM

What a relief it must be for non-Pats fans to have an article written about their team. It kinda gives them an opportunity to throw around words like dynasty and best and other similar abstractions when referring to their teams. But I know, Florio has to do his part to maintain a sort of faux parity when posting these blogs.
Of course, the reality is that there is currently only one legitimate dynasty, the New England Patriots. Under Belichick, Brady, Adams and Kraft, they are statistically dominant when extraordinary injuries and “any given Sundays” are factored in. And those don’t happen very often.

  54. gizz88 says: Feb 27, 2016 9:22 AM
