Romo “leaning toward” having plate inserted in collarbone

A decision has been made. Sort of.

Speaking to a couple of reporters on Saturday (apparently at a LegoLand appearance with his wife and kids . . . and there’s nothing quite like stepping on one of those damn plastic bricks in your bare feet while stumbling to the bathroom in the middle of the night), Romo first said that he’ll have a plate inserted into his thrice-broken collarbone to protect it against further fracture.

He then clarified his remarks to say he’s “leaning toward” having the plate inserted. The information comes via Drew Davison of of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Desmond Purnell of NFL Media.

Romo has decided to have surgery. The question is whether he’ll have a plate inserted or a so-called Mumford procedure, which entails something other than the insertion of a plate.

Raise of hands; anybody care what type of surgery Romo has? Yea I didn’t think so….

  2. dejadoh says: Feb 27, 2016 10:51 AM

He should have decided this two months ago to allow for more time for it to heal. What a great teammate.

    It’s over … Dallas drafts a QB.

  4. nhpats says: Feb 27, 2016 10:57 AM

Has this guy ever won a postseason game?

  5. pkrjones says: Feb 27, 2016 11:02 AM

Should’ve had a plate installed last September, would’ve been able to finish the season AND partake in all offseason work. His advisor(s) are not helping him extend his career.

  6. thehatefulnerd says: Feb 27, 2016 11:07 AM

Also “leaning toward” melting down in the playoffs.

  7. jimnaizeeum says: Feb 27, 2016 11:13 AM

Jerry may have a plate in his head…that would help explain his knee jerk personnel moves

  8. lambeaudungbarn says: Feb 27, 2016 11:17 AM

If he doesn’t retire he needs to have that plate put in his head!

  9. toorude86 says: Feb 27, 2016 11:20 AM

Not a cowboys fan at all. But to call tony romo a bad teammate because he didnt have surgery soon enough to play this year is just ignorant. There is alot of reason he hasnt done it yet. One is probably the swelling hasnt gone down enough to do it. Another is quality of life after his career is over. Dont comment on things you dont understand.

The bigger question he should be considering is, how will the plate affect his golf game? He only has a couple of years left of football, but 50 years of golf ahead of him.

  11. thegonz13 says: Feb 27, 2016 11:28 AM

OK, fair enough. Now how about “leaning toward” beating the living crap out of his senile geezer of an owner who put him in a bad situation when everyone knew Dallas wasn’t going to the playoffs?

  12. chazthespaz says: Feb 27, 2016 11:30 AM

Translation: Dr. Jones will have final say over what and when Romo will have his next procedure.

  13. jvw1982 says: Feb 27, 2016 11:31 AM

No one ever complimented Romo on his intelligence, dude needs to play these last few yrs with an eye on life after football…..he has two young kids and will regret decisions like this if he’s not going to enjoy playing sports with them as the grow….if he was a young guy just starting out then yea have the surgery, two yrs away from retirement not a good idea….Jerry loves to exploit his players love of the game….

  14. keylimelight says: Feb 27, 2016 11:31 AM

Jerry better go ahead and snap up Robert Griffin III or perhaps make an offer for Chase Daniel because Tony simply cannot be relied upon.

  15. gonakgod says: Feb 27, 2016 11:34 AM

Better be careful with it, so close to his neck he could wind up choking

  16. kneedragr says: Feb 27, 2016 11:45 AM

Bad move, the complication rate with the plate and screws is much higher, including nerve damage.

  17. fordmandalay says: Feb 27, 2016 11:59 AM

With his injury history, it will probably be a paper plate.

  18. doggeatdogg says: Feb 27, 2016 12:19 PM

Poor Tony. He should have done this back in early January for bones to heal. One solid hit and he’s out for games. They need to draft a QB and reconsider Griffin. Wow.

Career Playoff wins: Romo 2, Tebow 1

  22. anon5121 says: Feb 27, 2016 1:28 PM

Just stick a fork in it. Will this surgery help Romo win more than one playoff game?

It’s about that time for the Cowboys to draft another QB that Cowboys fans will scream and whine is better than that HOF QB in the NFCE who plays every game and wins SBs. Eli Manning. The cycle begins again.

  23. nnagi says: Feb 27, 2016 1:38 PM

Unlike most people, I really like Romo and the Cowboys, but I think this collar bone injury is going to wind up ending his career, I can’t see him being able to finish another full season, which is a shame because he’s a really good quarterback

3rd best QB rating of all-time.

LOL at the haters. Must SUCK knowing that America’s Team has FAR more success and is FAR more relevant than whatever POS, irrelevant team YOU root for.

Get down on your knees and kiss all 5 rings, peasants.

The Cowboys were a great team… they are the worst team in the NFC. And what’s worse, is they are going nowhere fast.

  26. r502 says: Feb 27, 2016 2:11 PM

The Raiders were once a great franchise, but they hit the skids when their aging owner could not see things for what they really are anymore. Looks like a repeat in Dallas. Honest Cowboy fan knows this. At least the Raiders tore it down, gutted the team, started over and look like they are about to turn the corner. The Cowboys have 10-15 years of bad football ahead of them with commander cuckoo bananas Jerry Jones running that circus.

  30. greenbaychicksarefat says: Feb 27, 2016 2:59 PM

He’s the NFL version of Derrick Rose.

    Porcelain Tony

  31. purpleguy says: Feb 27, 2016 3:43 PM

If he diddles around any more making this decision he can recuperate while watching 4th of July fireworks. . . . .

  32. nflrule says: Feb 27, 2016 5:06 PM

    I’m leaning towards not caring…

  33. Ferdinand says: Feb 27, 2016 5:15 PM

For crying out loud! Make up your freaking mind and give yourself the longest recovery time possible before you have to start taking hits again.

  34. mlander12 says: Feb 27, 2016 5:18 PM

I’m not a doctor, but I’m pretty sure the collarbone evolved to break like it does to protect your neck from breaking, it’s kinda a crumple zone in the body, so doing this could heighten his risk of a broken neck, not that smart of a life decision.

  35. thermanmerman99 says: Feb 27, 2016 6:05 PM

Will skip clueless be whining about this for the next month on ESPN?

  36. TS Johnson says: Feb 27, 2016 6:08 PM

Romo just needs to retire. He’s not making another full year. If he’s out less than 6 games in 2016 I’d be surprised.

At this rate dude will be a cripple by 50. Hell 45. Big Ben is another one where the injuries are piling up.

Let it go dude. Let it go.

  37. fanofpft says: Feb 27, 2016 6:10 PM

They take about as long to decide as Megatron does. He was out after week 12.

  38. cowboy2016 says: Feb 27, 2016 6:13 PM

Tony has a lot on his plate right now.

  39. finchy74 says: Feb 27, 2016 7:12 PM

Romo should just go the Bart Oates route and have his entire body below the neck replaced with cheap robotics.

  40. darealsmiley4284 says: Feb 28, 2016 12:56 AM

Dude is gonna get hit and turn into dust.

  41. skinsfolife says: Feb 28, 2016 8:14 AM

Like a straw house this guy will be blown down again.
