Antonio Cromartie expected to visit Bills

ORCHARD PARK, NY - JANUARY 03: Greg Salas #17 of the Buffalo Bills can't make the catch as Antonio Cromartie #31 of the New York Jets defends during the first half at Ralph Wilson Stadium on January 3, 2016 in Orchard Park, New York. (Photo by Brett Carlsen/Getty Images) Getty Images

At the Scouting Combine last week, Bills coach Rex Ryan discussed the disappointing performance of his defense in 2015 and how they will improve in 2016 in the inimitable style he’s become known for since moving up to a head coaching job.

“We’ve got to be all in,” Ryan said, via the Buffalo News. “It’s kind of like being half-pregnant. Forget that. We’re all in. We’re fully pregnant now.”

To make sure the defense remains fully pregnant, the Bills may turn to someone who has some experience in that area. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that cornerback Antonio Cromartie is expected to visit the Bills soon and that Ryan is “intrigued” by the prospect of bringing Cromartie on board.

Ryan coached Cromartie with the Jets from 2010 to 2013 so the corner is familiar with Ryan’s scheme. Cromartie struggled with the Jets last season, leading the team to cut him earlier this month to save $8 million, but the Bills would likely be asking Cromartie to play a different role since they already have a strong pair of starters in Stephon Gilmore and Ronald Darby.

Rex is trying to build the Jets 2.0….. Because the Jets 1.0 were so successful!!!

I hope the Bills sign him.

    PS – I’m a Jets fan.

Cro is used to the term pregnant, but Jets will resign him at a lower salary IMO

    Lock up your women Buffalo

Cromartie is visiting and he has pregnancy on his mind

Just checking in to see if anyone made the obvious joke about how he’s your guy if you want to make sure to be fully pregnant.

has enough kids to field a football team (12, I think)…also, thankfully, had a vasectomy…needs the payday to pay child support…

This move wouldnt make a lot, or any, sense. The team is cash strapped for 1. Less than the media makes out, but still to the point where they cant do much beyond retain their own guys.

But also, the team already has 2 starting CBs. They also have one of the most underrated nickel CBs in the league. They also have a #4 CB/S who is an overpaid but solid veteran they are trying to retain. So where would Cromartie fit in? Would he move to S? Except they already have 2 starting S lined up. No matter what spot he plays, they are either taking younger talent off the field or forcing him to play as a backup

rex won’t be happy until 27 ex jets bums on our are team.5-11 next year if Pegula and Whaley continue to let this clown run the show.

  10. mjd08501 says: Feb 28, 2016 2:10 PM

This only makes sense if he is gonna make the move to safety because he can’t play corner anymore. And even then I’m not so sure

Speaking of being fully pregnant, when is Rob Ryan due??

  12. yyc2phx says: Feb 28, 2016 3:35 PM

He’s a quitter…. You should have watched his last 8 game for the Cards… Forgot how to tackle and cover.. It was all about a contract.. Buyer beware and don’t forget to lock up the women too

Rex! If you’re gonna go after ex jets try some of the more competent ones. IE, Demario Davis, Damon Harrison Bilal Powell. You know, guys who can still contribute at a high level.

I can’t imagine how rex survives another year as the bills coach.

  15. stevegrogannakedbootleg says: Feb 28, 2016 4:27 PM

Confirmed Rex is screwing the Bills and without protection no less

  16. nflgtcfl says: Feb 28, 2016 4:30 PM

This guy has been mediocre for years and yet, at contract time he still manages a way to charm himself into scoring big.

I guess he just uses the same skill set from scoring with the ladies.

Remember when Jets fans thought their D was better than Denver’s D?? How did that turn out for ya?

Thought I read something somewhere he is after Powell.

Unless he can play safety, it’s a waste of a plane ticket….

  20. popandfresh says: Feb 28, 2016 5:06 PM

Wow…..first Rex has a foot fetish, now it’s pregnant women, FULLY pregnant women. So, he now has the moniker of barefoot pregnant women. Go Bills…….wow.

Did you seriously just say the Bills starting corners were “STRONG?!?”

I’m not sure which was worse… the pass rush, the tackling, or the secondary. But one thing is certain… ALL corners on the Bills were HORRIBLE. Cromartie would be an upgrade to anyone in that secondary, even if you played him at safety.

But apparently this article was only written so you could make a joke about how many children he has put into this world.

And that’s fine. Get your laughs in. But please don’t act like he’s not a decent corner, and a better corner than anything the Bills put on the field last season.

    watermelon1,

Darby had an outstanding rookie season, something that apparently you missed. Gilmore isn’t as billed but he’s certainly solid. CBs are hardly the Bills’ biggest need. Either way, Cromartie’s not an upgrade over either.

I suspect that if they sign him it will be to play FS where they need help.

Do you even watch football? Or do just want to bash the Bills just for fun? To say Cromartie is just as good as one of the better tandems in the NFL is comical. Cro was good 5 years ago but his time is past. He gets exposed without an elite corner on the other side. He’s just a Robin, he’ll never be Batman.

    Buffalo Bills

    Average PFF grade: 71.4

Rex Ryan has one of the best cornerback tandems in rookie Ronald Darby (87.1, fourth overall) and Stephon Gilmore (84.6, 14th overall)

“We’ve got to be all in,” Ryan said, via the Buffalo News. “It’s kind of like being half-pregnant. Forget that. We’re all in. We’re fully pregnant now.”

    Oh, Buffalo.

It’s not even funny anymore, just downright pathetic.

Bills Corners are very good. Lack of pass rush last year made it much tougher. Instead of covering for 3-4 seconds, they had to cover for 6-7. Tough to do in the NFL.

Rex is like a little kid drafting a fantasy team, He only picks players from one team, the team he knows. Let Whaley do his job bringing in talent and stop with the Jet Rejects.

  26. nhpats says: Feb 28, 2016 6:51 PM

Not sure he is enough of a bulky for Rex’s liking. He probably needs to go beat up a cop or two to get Rex’s attention. Maybe Shady can take him out on his next boys’ night out.

  27. f1restarter says: Feb 28, 2016 7:51 PM

Bad choice of words, Rex. You shouldn’t use the word “pregnant” within earshot of Cromartie; he’ll want an extra couple of million to feed his ever-growing brood.

  28. thejuddstir says: Feb 28, 2016 8:55 PM

What do Jerry Jones, Donald Trump and Rex Ryan have in common? All a bunch of frauds.
