Matt Hasselbeck says farewell to Colts, Indianapolis

Over the weekend, Michael Silver of NFL Media reported that the Colts are not planning to bring veteran quarterback Matt Hasselbeck back for another season as Andrew Luck’s backup.

Hasselbeck will become a free agent next week so there’s no formal move to make on the Colts’ end to confirm that Hasselbeck’s time in Indianapolis is done. Hasselbeck provided confirmation of his own via Twitter on Monday, though.

“Amazing experience w/ Colts. My family & I are grateful to you Indianapolis. Many great friends, you will be missed!” Hasselbeck wrote.

Hasselbeck spent three years with the Colts and made eight starts last season while Luck was out of the lineup with injuries. Hasselbeck suffered a few injuries of his own behind Indy’s leaky offensive line, but played well enough that he should have offers for next season from other clubs if he’s looking to continue his career for an 18th season.
