Packers, Mason Crosby agree to four-year deal

The Packers are keeping their kicker.

Mason Crosby, who has spent his entire nine-year career in Green Bay, has just agreed to a new four-year deal to stay with the Packers.

The 31-year-old Crosby is coming off one of his better seasons in kicking accuracy: He made 24 of 28 field goals, including a 56-yarder, and made all 36 extra point attempts. He struggled on kickoffs, however, with just 41 touchbacks on 80 kickoffs.

Crosby had been slated to become a free agent next week, but the Packers have now kept him off the market.

Mason Crosby is easily the best player on the Packers Roster at this current moment.

….This is why they didn’t win the NFC North Division.

I know it kills the Viking trolls to read it but this is how a real GM operates. With plenty of cap room (year after year too), he signs them at the right price and keeps only the best performers. Sure, some of them sign big FA contracts elsewhere (Minnesota for a lot of the ex Packers) but tell me of a free agent that got out of Green Bay and actually had a better career elsewhere, certainly not Craig Jennings.

So, we keep our kicker, one of only 5 in the NFL to never miss an extra point all year. And for Viking fans everywhere, the extra point try this past year is from 33 yards out, that’s 6 more yards than the 27 yard attempt missed by Blair Walsh. Laces out!!!

  3. vikingsandvikingsfanssuck says: Mar 1, 2016 6:51 PM

That’s great news! He can spend the rest of football life on a championship team. GO PACK!

  5. vikingf0rlife says: Mar 1, 2016 7:08 PM

Sure wish we had a kicker like Crosby, he would never miss a 26 yard FG after licking 4 other times in a playoff game. Then again that would never happen because the Packers QB and really any other QB in the league outside our noodle armed, tiny, baby-handed, overrated QB can actually complete passes beyond 10 yards and make big plays. Teddy only dreams of being an actual NFL QB. : (

Solid signing by a solid organization. I wonder how much he got ? I am guessing 19 million for the 4 yrs . I believe the NE kicker signed a 4 yr deal in July for $17.3. The price of a kicker may be more valuable now that the extra points are longer. Good work Ted.

Congrats to Crosby, he has the Salt and Pepper hair, that is as fierce as his leg.

You can tell the off-season is in full swing as ThePFT Poet posts his foolish nonsense… that doesn’t entertain anyone but himself, as he seems to drop whatever is going on with his day to troll people…. If Blair Walsh was as efficient, as the Poet is with his passion the Vikings might have won vs. Seattle.

  11. jessethegreat says: Mar 1, 2016 7:25 PM

Does everyone else notice poet’s name by something and just skip past it as well? He makes Vikings fans all look special needs by himself. And that’s sad because there a few intelligent ones out there.

  26. xemper0rx says: Mar 1, 2016 8:21 PM

People can say what they want about TT, but when Crosby had a terrible year he didn’t panic cut him. He brought in competition for Crosby and that brought out the best in him.

I believe 1 of 3 kickers to make all his extra point attempts last year. He had that one terrible kick at the end of the lions game and didn’t miss a game winning 27 year field goal in the playoffs.

  27. packsupersoldier says: Mar 1, 2016 8:27 PM

    He’s 25th among 27 active kickers that qualify in FG%. 1 of only 4 kickers under 80%.

He’s known for his leg strength… But what good is that when you can’t make FGs? He’s 27 for 52 from 50+

I laugh at anyone who thinks this guy is great.

It’s a lot easier to fix/replace a kicker than 11 defenders that can’t even manage to stay within 40 yards of the best receiver on the field.. In overtime.. Of a playoff game. Then take 50 yards to trip him. Ouch.

  32. fartweasel says: Mar 1, 2016 8:53 PM

  33. paulchi2014 says: Mar 1, 2016 8:53 PM

martiizzle – strange when the Packers were defending the division title for four straight years, Minnesota fans claimed it was how the Packers fared in the playoffs that mattered, not winning division titles. So I am going to hold your one and done Vikings to that standard. You choked hard in the playoffs – this is why the Packers are drafting after you, in spite of your “division” title. In the end – we know who the better team was. – it wasn’t the division title Vikings.

  34. zerotrophiessince1961 says: Mar 1, 2016 8:55 PM

You’re right tjacks – it is easier to replace a kicker than a full defense.

But it’s not easier to replace a kicker AND a full offense full of busts/over the hill/never-was/washed up Packers than it is to replace a rookie CB who blew a coverage.

  42. holmes707 says: Mar 1, 2016 9:26 PM

To all of the Vikings fans out there –

You consistently draft earlier than the Packers do, yet we are still a better team most of the time. Truthfully, I think the Vikings roster is pretty loaded. You’re more active in free agency signings of outside players as well. But somehow, you still can’t get it done in the clutch. You’ve made big splashes in coaching hires, and for that I also salute you. You’d think that you all would be dominating the division. But, no you have not. Hmm. Maybe it’s time to stop bashing the pack and signing our rejects, and maybe take a look at why our formula works. I respect the Vikings. They are on the right track…finally. But still, I don’t see this team taking over the division.

  43. shaggytoodle says: Mar 1, 2016 9:30 PM

2012 was the season Crosby had a rough year but since then he has been kicking about 85% and it’s what have you done for me lately league… sometimes Kickers just lose in we have seen it before and will see it again but Crosby seemed to cure what Ailey him.

Stop the nitpicking and bickering. It really all comes down to “Wide Left,” doesn’t it?

Team name isn’t needed. Until the NFL no longer exists, fans of all teams will know what “Wide Left” means, and that it is emblematic of the all-time league-wide NFL record for postseason futility, including all the ancient pre-merger teams.
