The Panthers figure to be reloading their defensive line this offseason, with or without Charles Johnson taking a pay cut.
And they’re looking at a low-risk add today.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Panthers have former Jets first-rounder Quinton Coples in today for a physical.
The Jets punted Coples in November, and he had a cup of coffee with the Dolphins, but not nearly enough to justify them carrying the $7.8 million option on his rookie contract.
He had 16.5 sacks in his first three seasons, though he never seemed a good fit in a 3-4 defense. That won’t be a problem with the Panthers, who are looking to augment their end position, and the University of North Carolina product could be a good fit, after Jared Allen retired.
