Panthers put franchise tag on Josh Norman

The Panthers tried to do a long-term deal with cornerback Josh Norman, but weren’t able to.

But they’re still keeping him.

Per multiple reports, the Panthers have used the franchise tag on the 28-year-old corner, who emerged as an All-Pro last year.

Norman was offered something in the $7 million a year range prior to last season, but upped his earning potential with an excellent season.

But between his short run as a top-flight corner (he took forever to get out of Ron Rivera’s doghouse) and his age, it was hard to find a common ground on his value.

Now they can sit on him for a year and see how he reacts, and what happens to his value. He should probably sign the $13.952 million offer immediately, at least before his next charity basketball game Saturday.
