Alex Mack’s agent told Cleveland.com his client becoming a free agent is a “procedural” move and that Mack won’t rule out a return to the Browns after testing the market.
Mack voided the final three years on his contract Wednesday, two days ahead of the deadline to do so.
Tim Younger, Mack’s agent, said the opt-out clause Mack exercised “was built into his contract to afford him maximum flexibility. For the first time in his career, he will be experiencing true free agency. Although we anticipate interest from multiple teams, he was very impressed with Hue Jackson and returning to the Browns certainly remains on the table.”
Mack had the opt-out clause as part of his signing a transition tag offer sheet with the Jaguars two years ago that the Browns matched. A three-time Pro Bowl center, Mack was due to make $8 million in 2016 on his now-voided contract.
