The Raiders found their starting quarterback when they took Derek Carr in the second round of the 2014 draft and they appear to have strong feelings about his backup as well.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Raiders have extended a second-round tender to restricted free agent quarterback Matt McGloin. The terms of the tender call for McGloin to make $2.553 during the 2016 season.

McGloin is free to negotiate with other teams in the coming weeks, although any offers he receives can be matched by the Raiders. The Raiders would get a second-round pick in compensation should McGloin get an offer they don’t want to match, a turn of events that happens rarely enough that it’s safe to go ahead and pencil McGloin onto the team’s roster for next season.

McGloin signed with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2013 and started six games as a rookie. He has made three appearances without getting another start in the last two seasons, although the use of a second-round tender suggests he’s the guy the Raiders want starting in the event something happens to Carr.
