Several veteran players have gotten a head start on the looming free-agent market, and they’re taking advantage of it.

PFT has confirmed that defensive end Charles Johnson will visit the Giants on Sunday. The news was first reported by Josina Anderson of ESPN.

Johnson, who signed a six-year, $72 million deal after the 2011 lockout, was cut last week prior to the commencement of the final year of the contract.

He had a career-high 12.5 sacks in 2012, and another 11 in 2013. Last year, injuries limited him to nine regular-season games, and only one sack.

The Giants, who once had a potent pass rush, have struggled to put pressure on the quarterback in recent years. Jason Pierre-Paul is due to become a free agent on Wednesday; it’s unclear whether he’ll return to the team.
