The Dolphins have officially announced that a visit with Mario Williams has been completed, with no deal done yet.

Williams arrived in Miami yesterday, his first stop in free agency. Because Williams was released by the Bills, he is a free agent now and can sign with a team at any time. Free agency for players whose contracts expired begins on Wednesday.

Four years ago, Williams was the NFL’s most sought-after free agent, and he signed what was at the time the biggest contract ever for a defensive player with the Bills. After he had his worst season in Buffalo last year, the Bills decided that he was no longer worth his large salary.

But he’s still a good enough pass rusher that he’ll be a coveted free agent. The Dolphins, who freed up some cap space yesterday by cutting receiver Greg Jennings and restructuring the contracts of defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and linebacker Koa Misi, seem interested in making Williams a lucrative offer, even if nothing has been finalized so far.
