Free agent defensive end Mario Williams is scheduled to visit the Giants, and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Giants have a chance to sign Williams before the visit ends.
Williams, released last week by the Bills, has also visited the Dolphins. Even though Williams is 31 and is coming off a subpar season, he’s in demand because so many teams are looking for pass rushers.
Mike Garofolo of FOX Sports reported Sunday night that the Jaguars are interested in meeting with Williams as well.
Williams had five sacks last season, snapping a streak of three straight double-digit sack seasons. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft has 96 career sacks.
The Giants are also planning to meet with ex-Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson. Upgrading their defense and specifically the pass rush is an offseason priority, and the defensive end position is especially important because Jason Pierre-Paul and Robert Ayers are eligible to hit the free agent market this week.
Johnson has visits set up with the Giants and Buccaneers.
