Browns center Alex Mack opted out of his contract and the $8 million he was slated to make in 2016 last week to pursue free agency in part because Mack knew he would have outside suitors.
Jason Cole of Bleacher Report first reported Monday that the Falcons have interest in Mack, and a source confirmed that interest to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com later Monday.
Mack, 30, had never missed a snap before suffering a leg injury in Oct. 2014 that ended his season prematurely. He returned to start all 16 games last season.
Mack is a three-time Pro Bowler. His agent said last week that his opt out was procedural and wouldn’t rule out a return to the Browns.
The Akron Beacon Journal reported Monday that the Browns have interest in Jaguars center Stefen Wisniewski. Mack signed an offer sheet with the Jaguars in 2014 when the Browns gave him the transition tag, and the Browns matched the offer.
