RG3 is RG Free, and he’s in the PFT Hot 100

AP

The PFT Free Agent Hot 100 list has been changing by the hour as teams have cut veteran players to clear cap room and prepare for Wednesday’s start of the league year.

Quarterback Robert Griffin III hasn’t played in a game in a while, but after the Redskins officially cut Griffin on Monday he was added to the list.

The Hot 100 list is subjective and not easy to put together. You’ve argued many of the picks. We’ve noticed. But the value of quarterbacks must be noticed and has been throughout the list, and placing Griffin just ahead of Chiefs quarterback Chase Daniel seemed to make sense.

We don’t know which teams will pursue Griffin, but it’s a safe bet that some will.

Monday marked the start of the period that teams can contact agents of players eligible for free agency when the market opens Wednesday. As of this writing, Brock Osweiler of the Broncos is easily the top unsigned quarterback.

Osweiler will get paid, handsomely, soon — and probably by the Broncos. Ryan Fitzpatrick of the Jets, Griffin and Daniel are next on the list. What the market holds, we don’t know. But the real spending will start soon.

  1. Which is more embarrassing, cutting the guy you gave up so much for or the inability to parlay such a windfall into at least a playoff appearance?

They did go to the playoffs when they won their division in RG2BadKnee’s rookie season.

  3. Good luck to RG3 on finding a greener pasture and good luck to the Redskins as they hope for a brighter future. It’s a good move for both parties.

  4. I honestly dunno what this guy did to most of you. Guy played on an exploded knee and did his best when the coach was trying to end his career just to prove himself right. Then they asked him to run for his life behind a crap offensive line with no receivers to throw to.

He’s worth a shot to anyone with a decent nucleus.

  5. I’m probably in the minority here, but I’d really like to see RG get another shot. I think he was attacked unfairly, after sacrificing his health to the pettiness of Shanarat.

  6. @hlna55

So you blame shanny. Explain why he cant read a defense. hit 20 yd passes. stay healthy. Throws o lineman under the bus. He an athlete not an nfl player.

  7. 1. Teach him how to read a NFL defense.
    2. Teach him how to slide.
    3. Teach him how to throw from pocket.
4 Put clock in head so he doesn’t hold ball to long.
5.Teach him not to run as first instinct.
6.Teach him how to let an offensive play develop.
    7. teach him how to run an NFL offense.

  8. I dont think that all those endorsements and marketing right out the gate helped him focus on building an NFL career either. Might wanna pass on those for longevity’s sake this second time around.

  9. U RG3 fans are ridic…mad at shanahan? Why, cuz he k ew RG3 couldnt play qb, and wanted to llay cousins? Cuz he knew RG3 couldnt stay healthy running every play?

Scoreboard my friends…RG3 just got cut, and cousins got franchise tagged…looks like shanahan was right

  10. As others have said, some of you guys act like Griffin stole your lunch money.
I hope he gets another chance with a decent team. Just not in the NFC East please.

He was not treated well by Shanny JR I think it was personal. look what some players on the Falcons are saying about him now.

He did play in one postseason game, had the Seahawks down 14-zip until his knee went.

RGme’s knee was exploded because he couldn’t get his head around doing the transition to the NFL from college and tried to run like a RB against the monster hitters they have in the NFL instead of learning how to play pro QB…

at the end of the day, he is the one who chose to run, not to slide, and not to be a Pro QB

he is absolutely not the victim here and his career at first string should be over

  12. RG3s employment will keep Mike Shanahan unemployed, and that is good for the NFL, mankind and Redskins fans everywhere.

  13. Look the Shanahans devised a system for Rg3 that took the rest of the NFL by surprise. They had em on their heels and I still believe to this day, had they let Cousins come in when they were up 14 zip over Seattle they would have won that game and been on a roll to a championship. The injury, and his continuing to play until he was unable to play effectively changed his whole future.

Good luck to him. People can blame coaches, they can blame Rg3, but the truth of it is it was a bit of both.

Maybe somebody can catch lightning in a bottle with him again. He sure was electrifying and at the time those draft picks seemed an afterthought…now we know. Shanahan at least had the sense to snag Cousins who could be the franchise QB the Redskins have sought, or, he could be another QB to “win and NFCE championship” and then downhill from there. Hope the whole situation works out for all parties involved.

  14. What will really sting Washington, is if Robert Griffin III goes onto have a successful career with another club. If the terms and price is right, I’d like to see RG3 in Gang Green next season with Chan Gailey having him run the spread offense throwing to Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker and Devin Smith.

  15. Tebow is not a superior QB because he won a playoff game, on arguably the only good pass he ever threw in a football game. It’s a team effort and he had a better team. Bob 3 is a better all around athlete than Tebow. Does that make him a better QB? No. But, what does is the fact that he can spread the ball better and he can, if need be, run better than Tebow. I don’t necessarily like the kid, but to say Tebow is superior is preposterous.

  16. He is midway through his Kordell Stewart career trajectory which will destined to end like ValueJet flight 592, nose down in Florida.

Another ESL contributor I see. Don’t worry, keep at it and you too will understand the meaning of common English words.

I thought the coach had a responsiblity to…you know…coach(ie teach) the players on how to do those things.
SO yeah, I blame Master Splinter.

  19. I speak for most logical and good-hearted Redskins fans. We wish RG3 the best. He brought us so much happiness in 2012. Its just really unfortunate that, after the injuries, he couldn’t learn to play a different game. He may still figure it out and we all understand what a good guy he truly is. He had some personality flaws, but hey, we ALL do. He loves God, works in the community, and the way he supported Kirk and the team was pretty amazing.

  20. Some folks here are still comparing Tim Tebiw with RG3. This is shameful. Are they related to Tebow in some fashion?

Tebiw lacks basic intelligence in both understanding play designs and actually throwing the ball. All his coaches said just that and that is why he could not hold down a QB role.

Shame on all those trying to pump up Tebow. What’s in it for them, I wonder?

  21. Most fans outside the beltway don’t get it. Redskins fans don’t hate, we felt bad for the way things went off track, but we can’t blame a 24 year old kid any more than we blame the coach. We wish Robert well and hope he returns to form outside of our division. Saint Louis got a kings ransom in draft picks but we have won our division twice since. Go Skins
