The Packers avoided having to tender one of their restricted free agents.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Packers re-signed guard Lane Taylor to a two-year deal which will pay him $4.15 million, with $600,000 guaranteed.

That’s trading a year of contractual control and cost certainty for the guaranteed money, since he’d have gotten either the $1.671 million low tender or the $2.553 million second-round tender.

Taylor made the Packers in 2013 as an undrafted free agent. He played in four games last year, starting two, but has 30 appearances in his first three seasons. He was one of the fill-ins this year as the Packers line was wracked by injuries, and now they have some known depth for the next few years.
