The team has announced that Gates has signed a new two-year deal with the team. The headline to the press release┬ásays that Gates is “set to finish career” with the Chargers.

Gates will continue to work with Philip Rivers; they’ve connected on 77 touchdown passes, an NFL record for a quarterback and tight end. Gates also is high on various all-time receiving lists, with credentials that could make him destined for Canton.

He was the 2nd greatest TE of his era in the sport behind Chris Cooley. Godspeed Gates.

Chris frickin Cooley? Maybe if you said Gonzales that would be acceptable but Cooley?! The closest that guy will get to Canton is if he attends the ceremony for Gates. This from the guy that said RG3 was the greatest qb ever after one season.

He deserves hof before Johnson. Giving the game everything he has and doesn’t walk away when his team sucks.

Wouldn’t it be great to see Antonio Gates getting lit up by Eric Weddle if he signs with the Raiders.

I sometimes can’t believe Gates is still in the league. Dude has been around forever! Great career though and it’s been fun to watch.
