DeMarco Murray jokes that he “took a year off”

New Titans running back DeMarco Murray had a rough season in Philadelphia. But he sees the glass as half full.

I feel like I took a year off last year, so I am fresh,” Murray joked on Wednesday, via his new team’s official website.

Turning more serious, Murray said he’s motivated by the criticism he has absorbed for a subpar performance with the Eagles.

“I have never been one to pay attention to the critics, but you obviously hear stuff and are around people and you hear things that are said and it definitely fires you up and motivates you,’’ Murray said. “I’m 100 percent [motivated]. The NFL is a place where you have to make the best of your opportunities, and every day is a challenge, every day is a competition. I look forward to competing every day and getting back on track and running the ball the way I know I can, and running plays I am intrigued by.”

This implies that Murray wasn’t intrigued by the running plays he ran last year.

“I have seen what coach Mularkey has done with a guy like Michael Turner in Atlanta and that excites me,” Murray added. “Whatever they ask me to do I am willing to do it, whether it is carrying the ball 20 times, 30 times, whatever. I’m excited, and I am going to do my best to help this team out and do as much as I can.”

It all sounds good on the way through the door. It sounded the same way a year ago, when Murray arrived in Philadelphia. Time will tell whether Murray feels the same way once the real games start.

As an Eagles fan, I assure you, he’s not actually joking.

This was actually hilarious. Nice, subtle, backhanded comment for Philly.

Easy to feel fresh when you avoid contact more thanyour fragile QB. He lost my respect after that in bounds slide against Miami

Went from a star running back rushing champ on the Dallas Cowboys to a journeyman by choice.

Well then, when should the Eagles expect you to return the money since you were off?

Hey demarco the eagles has been taking years off since 1960

If you ignore Murray’s games against the Rams in 2011 and 2013, his yards-per-carry drop by almost a yard in those two seasons. That’s pretty significant.

The last paragraph says it all.

  9. ajonesmc931 says: Mar 9, 2016 9:02 PM

He clearly means because of how he was used. When you get tosses every play and a terrible offensive line this happens. Funny how titans basically stole demarco from eagles swapped 4th round picks LOL. Sinking ship over there

Someone should tell him he was traded to the Titans who actually chose Mike Mularkey as their head coach before he starts boasting about how great he’ll be…

Oh please… he said all the same stuff last year after he signed with Philly.

The dude deposits his motivation at the bank with his paycheck and that’s the last you see of it.

He’s a one-dimensional running back. Without a fullback or an offensive line, he won’t be productive.

He slid to avoid a hit from a 185 lb CB. He was an “anonymous source” all year long. Most of all, he is just not good anymore. He’s slow and stiff. He’s a no-heart gash who got paid and mailed it in. Enjoy playing out the string of your soon-to-be-over career in Nashville, TN for a a four win football team.

    He sure did.

He gave away the Redskins game and set up Chip to get fired. Howie rewarded him by letting him get out of town. Nashville is a great place to work and live.

Based on his injury history, he’s taken most of his career off…

  25. bergey1099 says: Mar 10, 2016 12:46 PM

That’s funny – everyone else feels like you took the year off as well, you whining crybaby. You sucked when you did get the ball, and you’re complaining?

Maybe Jenkins will mail you the chair he got for you when you were sitting out of training camp.
