Seahawks keep cornerback Jeremy Lane with four-year deal

The Seattle Seahawks have apparently managed to keep another one of their own free agents from leaving town.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Seahawks reached a four-year deal with cornerback Jeremy Lane to keep him in Seattle. A source confirmed to PFT a deal had been reached Wednesday evening.

Lane missed the first 10 games of the 2015 season as he recovered from a broken arm and torn ACL suffered in Super Bowl XLIX against the New England Patriots. But once he was back on the field, Lane didn’t take long to get back to full speed. He finished the regular season with two interceptions (the first regular season picks of his career) and a career-high six passes defended.

Lane has the ability to play both outside and in the slot for Seattle. The new contract likely puts Lane in line to take over as the starter opposite Richard Sherman. Though his ability to play the slot could see him move inside in nickel situations with DeShawn Shead, Tharold Simon or another option taking over on the perimeter.

Seattle managed to keep defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin as well before the start of free agency.
