The Pittsburgh Steelers have gone the free agency route to find a replacement for Heath Miller at tight end.

PFT has confirmed that former San Diego Chargers tight end Ladarius Green has reached a four-year, $20 million deal with the Steelers.

Green will get a $4.5 million signing bonus with Pittsburgh. He will make $1.25 million in base salary in 2016, $5 million in 2017, and $4.5 million in 2018 and 2019.

Green is coming off a career-best season in San Diego with 429 yards and four touchdowns. Green started 13 games for the Chargers in 2015 as Antonio Gates was limited to just four starts due to injuries.

Green has appeared in 47 games for San Diego over the last four seasons with 77 catches for 1,087 yards and seven touchdowns.

let me get this right. the steelers cut heath miller so they could sign this bum??? sure he might be 8 years younger, but would you rather have a grizzled vet, student of the game type who watches film on his off days and puts the team first every of step of the way, or a me-first glory boy who as raw athleticiscm but lacks grit and whos name literaly means he only cares about money?? thought so

  2. steeltownpride says: Mar 9, 2016 10:42 PM

Do the Steelers double dip SD F/a’s and also sign weddle ?

  3. Stiller43 says: Mar 9, 2016 10:44 PM

Ehh..overpaid, but with the cap going up like it is, maybe its not that bad a number.

Clearly they envision him as a starter.

Oh yeah. I like the way the off-season is shaping up.

  4. bgsusteelers says: Mar 9, 2016 10:48 PM

And the Colts gave Allen $11M per. Neither is a huge difference maker, like Gronk, so I’ll take the better contract.

  5. clevelandisahole says: Mar 9, 2016 10:52 PM

Uh. They didn’t cut Heath. He retired. So….. You didn’t get it right…..

  6. gaffya says: Mar 9, 2016 10:52 PM

and the greatest team in the history of the world just got a little younger a little faster and a little better…….I can smell #7

  7. arktikman says: Mar 9, 2016 10:53 PM

So I guess they won’t be taking Hunter Henry if he is available at their pick then.

  8. nobleeding says: Mar 9, 2016 10:53 PM

The Steelers did not cut Heath Miller. Do not let the facts get in the way.

  9. sasattack says: Mar 9, 2016 10:55 PM

realtruthteller…everything you said makes sense except for the fact that “Heeeeth” retired and wasn’t cut. Nice try though.

    welcome to the Burgh!

Anyone who thinks Green is a bum, hasn’t seen him play.

It’s not easy being the “second TE choice” after 1st ballot Hall of Famer Antonio Gates…Rivers’ favorite target.

Charger fans will be sad to see Green get away…he was supposed to be our future after Gates retires…but you can’t pay big bucks to two tight ends.

That said, Green could have done more when Gates missed the first 4 games of 2015…but Rivers just didn’t have the same chemistry with him,
Would not surprise me at all to see Green be a big success if the Steelers use him right…

Steelers offense is going to be insane with the amount of speed that they have at every position now.

  13. straightehh says: Mar 9, 2016 11:07 PM

Hope he wears 86…This way fans can recycle those old Eric Green jerseys!

Since youre trying to get it right, Earl Heath Miller retired, they didn’t cut him.

Good pick up for the Steelers, Might want to make big Ben your 1st qb taken in these future fantasy drafts because he has many weapons now.

  16. levanderwilliams says: Mar 9, 2016 11:08 PM

    Solid pick up for Pitts.

  17. jgo304 says: Mar 9, 2016 11:13 PM

Lat Green is a steal at 5 a year, wish my Pack would have offered him 7.

His #1 job will be own the seam so AB can run crossing routes. Teams will have to respect his size & speed opening things up for Ben.

Stillers offense could be a threat next year.

  18. cambodianbreastmilk says: Mar 9, 2016 11:26 PM

He’s legit, but was just sitting behind Gates for the last couple years. 6’5, 270ish, and runs a 4.50. My guess is he will be Burgerrapers favorite target once Antonio Brown is double teamed each game. Solid signing for PIT.

  19. National Fanatic says: Mar 9, 2016 11:29 PM

“Green started 13 games for the Chargers in 2015 as Antonio Gates was limited to just four starts due to injuries.”

No way did Green start 13 games. That’s got to be an an error! If he did, he played the first snap, then Gates took over. Gates was suspended the first 4 games of the season, and didn’t miss any games because of injury.

Green has tons of potential, but all he is is a possession slot receiver. 235 lbs tight ends that can’t block are are illusions of a tight end. Rivers never trusted him and Green never put all his talent to use in San Diego.

  20. Slapshot says: Mar 9, 2016 11:29 PM

Now, they gotta go defense with at least 2 of their first 3 picks. The secondary has a glaring need, even if they sign Weddle, but if there’s low value there, I’d like to see a DL who can share the load with Hayward, Tuitt and McClendon. Also with Timmons not getting any younger, an ILB wouldn’t be bad either.

  21. steelhammer92 says: Mar 9, 2016 11:31 PM

Crazy athletic and dynamic offense.. Just crazy.

  22. rickochey says: Mar 9, 2016 11:49 PM

  23. cochise7969 says: Mar 10, 2016 12:01 AM

This guys is good, he looked like Gates on the field. Won’t be surprised if he contributes more than Heath.

  24. youdrivemenutseagles says: Mar 10, 2016 12:07 AM

Miller didn’t have a lot of speed, but the dude was clutch. Lots of timely receptions. He’ll be tough to replace, but I like that pickup nonetheless.

  25. pftaddict says: Mar 10, 2016 1:30 AM

I like this signing. Green will be a big contributor in the Steelers 2016 season and in the Steelers win in Super Bowel 51.

  26. steeltroll says: Mar 10, 2016 7:33 AM

Realtruthteller spicing up the thread with some comedic irony. As others have pointed out, Miller retired o’ teller of truths.

I love how this offseason is shaping up.we are locked and loaded, getting ready for the sweep of that pathetic franchise baltiless buzzards.Welcome to the burgh mr green.kevin has a plan.

  28. enoughofthatalready says: Mar 10, 2016 8:22 AM

That’s a lot of dough for a pass catching tight end to come in and play a position where blocking is the priority. Oh well…..have to wait and see how it pans out. I guess this ensures that the first round draft pick will be a linebacker again.

  29. williamshatnerstoupee says: Mar 10, 2016 8:31 AM

The GM of that team that wears the black and gold knocks another one out of the park. An outstanding offseason thus far. Meanwhile, that team that wears the purple and black are barely keeping their heads above water. Bad contracts, more police activity, and suspensions for PED’s. I like the way this offseason is shaping up, for both teams. I see maybe two wins for that team that wears the purple and black.

  30. boltson says: Mar 10, 2016 8:34 AM

SD kept waiting for Ladarius to break out. Even with Gates out of the lineup, it never really happened.

  31. TebowedOutOfThePostSeasonAndNeverToReturn says: Mar 10, 2016 8:42 AM

With Watson snatched up, at least they got their consolation prize. He put up ten scary yards against the Ravens last year so we’re shaking in our boots NOT.

  32. williamshatnerstoupee says: Mar 10, 2016 8:50 AM

Our friend who is obsessed with that quarterback from down south and also obsessed with that team that wears the black and gold is trying to put up a brave front, but continues to swing and miss. A dismal season ahead for that team that wears the purple and black.

No, you got it wrong. You got it as wrong as someone that views Charles Manson as a positive role model.

Heath retired. He was done. If you actually watched the Steelers last season you would understand this.

  34. excusemewhileiwhipthisoutagain says: Mar 10, 2016 9:24 AM

I guess when he came to town the Steeler doctors were happy with his HIG factor and wrist circumference.

  35. steelcurtainn says: Mar 10, 2016 9:24 AM

Green never really got his chance in S.D. and now he will in Pittsburgh. Greens a good blocker with better speed the Heath. Once he develops good chemistry with Big Ben, the offense will be in a league of its own when healthy.

  36. abanig says: Mar 10, 2016 10:20 AM

Good move. The steelers need to get a pass catching TE. green has a lot of skills and looks a lot like a WR when he’s out there. He’ll flourish in the Steelers offense with Ben throwing him the ball and he can stretch the field more than Heath Miller has done the past 2 or 3 years.

  37. TebowedOutOfThePostSeasonAndNeverToReturn says: Mar 10, 2016 10:37 AM

The only way this guy catches anything from Big Ben is if he chases the injury cart.

what does charlie manson have to do with this? how about u stick 2 sports buddy. my point was weather or not heath was cut or was force to retired, he didnt leave of his own acord. and the fact that the steelers would go out and sign this green guy who is uterly lacking in grit shows that they dont know what their doing. it makes u wonder if there taking the rooney rule a step to far.

  40. williamshatnerstoupee says: Mar 10, 2016 11:06 AM

Our little friend who is obsessed with that quarterback down south and also obsessed with the team that wears the black and gold is getting more and more desperate as the minutes tick by. Looking up at the team that wears black and gold is getting closer every day. Easily a last place finish in 2016.

  41. triggerdawg01 says: Mar 10, 2016 11:27 AM

Watson won’t be catching nothing in baltiless as baltiless has no Qb.jump ball ain’t an sixteenth of a Qb that brees is.so enjoy your 60year old te,because after being bradyed out of the playoffs, baltiless has no playoff wins,no winning seasons, and a coach who does not know what a formation is and is a crybaby.carry on

  42. triggerdawg01 says: Mar 10, 2016 11:34 AM

And green put up as many yards against the buzzards as jump ball put up against ole noodle arm.a whopping 117 yds,now that’s something to really have people shaking in their boots.NOT!!

HAHAHAHHA!! Ben Watson. What is he now 42 years old? Hahahahah. Hope he doesn’t get caught up a a typically Baltimore riot.

  45. trailerparkking says: Mar 10, 2016 12:00 PM

I can smell the fear from tebow troll. The Ratbirds signed a washed up former 1st round bust in Watson while the Steelers signed what many are calling a diamond in the rough with unlimited potential.

  46. Spazz says: Mar 10, 2016 2:33 PM

I love you guys. Every single one of you.

  47. arktikman says: Mar 10, 2016 2:41 PM

Labels are less relevant in the NFL right now. LB or DE? SS or LB? TE or WR?

I present to you the next example. Think of this guy as a 6′ 6″ 240 pound WR that runs a 4.45 40. Pretty good.

I guarantee that every DC that needs to play against the Steelers this year just swore out loud at this signing.
