Victor Cruz says he’s staying with the Giants

All the money the Giants are throwing around today has to come from somewhere.

And it appears that wide receiver Victor Cruz will be making less of it.

The oft-injured wideout just sent out a message via social media suggesting he’s done what he needed to do to stay with his team.

The Giants were prepared to cut Cruz if he didn’t take a pay cut, so it appears that has happened.

Now we just have to wait and see how much of one, and when he’ll contribute. He was scheduled to make $7.9 million in base salary this year.

Cruz hasn’t played since Week Six of 2014, when he tore his patellar tendon. He’s since been plagued by calf injuries, to the point the Giants can’t be certain what they’ll get from him.

If well, the idea of pairing him with Odell Beckham Jr. would be tantalizing, but the Giants can’t reasonably count on that at this point.

UPDATE 8:50 p.m. ET: According to Art Stapleton of the Bergen Record, Cruz will have a base salary of $1.3 million, playing time incentives to cover another possible $5.5 million and production incentives which could get him back to the original number.

GOOD! Things may look bleak after the calf injury, but I think people are selling Cruz’s chance to come back a little short.

OBJ has relegated this guy to an afterthought. It sounds like if he makes his incentives though it could still work out for him. I hope it does.

Meh…whatever. We still need another receiver.

Low risk high reward was the only way to justify bringing him back. Talk about his calf injuries can’t obscure the fact that no speed guy has ever made it back to what he was after a serious patella injury
