The Bengals have been able to hang onto another one of their key pieces on defense.

According to Jim Owczarski of the Cincinnati Enquirer, versatile linebacker Vinny Rey has returned on a three-year, $11.5 million deal.

The 28-year-old Rey started eight games last year and 13 in 2014, filling in well while Rey Maualuga and Vontaze Burfict were injured. And with Burfict suspended the first three games of this season, he’ll be important from the start.

Originally an undrafted free agent from Duke, he’s played 80 straight games for the Bengals. Along with keeping safety George Iloka and cornerback Adam Jones.
