Brock Osweiler says he can win a championship in Houston

Brock Osweiler will get a Super Bowl ring from the Broncos, but he was benched for Peyton Manning just before Denver’s postseason run. In Houston, Osweiler wants to win a Super Bowl as the starter.

After agreeing to a four-year, $72 million contract with the Texans and arriving in Houston on Wednesday night, Osweiler said a Super Bowl ring is the goal.

Ultimately, a world championship. I believe that comes from a lot of hard work,” Osweiler said, via the Houston Chronicle.

Osweiler absolutely believes the Texans are championship material.

“This organization is on the cusp of doing something great, and I want to be part of it,” Osweiler said. “Coming to Houston was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.”

In Houston, Osweiler thinks the job is his, for good.

“Brock Osweiler says he can win a championship in Houston”.

I agree. Provided that Aaron Rodgers somehow becomes the starting quarterback and Brock takes a paycut and stays on as the backup.

Short of that, this isn’t a Super Bowl roster until it has a franchise quarterback. None of today’s transactions have changed that simple truth.

  3. nenlain says: Mar 10, 2016 4:45 AM

Good luck with that buddy. No seriously good luck because no one believes YOU can carry a team. I predict Brock is irrelevant as an NFL QB in half a year.

    No, you can’t!

  5. noteamforlosangeles says: Mar 10, 2016 4:56 AM

Unfortunately, this is what happens when you think the likes of Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett are long term solutions for your franchise. At least he went to a team that’s not in a division with the likes of the Patriots, Panthers, Packers or Seahawks.

Well Osweiler says a lot of things, just go back and listen to some of his comments from the Broncos.
Guy can’t stay on his feet, 7 games and 20 sacks. We will see…………………….

  12. jammer88 says: Mar 10, 2016 5:23 AM

I’m glad to see Brock Osweiler sticking it to the Broncos because what they did to him in Denver was not right. Manning, although a great QB, was injured most of the season and going into the SB was the lowest rated QB of any SB team that every played in the show. Good for you Brock. You’re a class act and I hope to take Houston to to the show.

  13. boobsanders says: Mar 10, 2016 5:24 AM

The next Ryan Mallett. Let’s hope he doesn’t skip practice sessions and sleeps through games.

I think Denver will be better off with RG3 or Kaepernick. Kubiak had a similar guy in Jake Plummer like a decade ago that he turned into a proficient starter.

  14. Vir Publius says: Mar 10, 2016 5:26 AM

Great news for him is the Texans don’t have any 40 year old 170yd a game 0TD 0INT game managers waiting in the wings, so the next time he throws 5 INTs against a crumbling Chargers team he can just stay in there and keep trying! Good luck, Crock Dumpsterfire

The Texans and most teams will take that. Schuab had some huge years with the Texans before he fell off. In any case Houston has a defense that was really good down the stretch last year and can be elite with a few tweeks. They have an elite wide receiver in DeAndre Hopkins, and they just signed Lamar Miller who was underutilized in Miami but will get plenty of carries in Houston. Oh and they finished 9-7 and won their division with one of the worse QB situation in the league last season. Oz will be ok.

  20. cross300 says: Mar 10, 2016 6:04 AM

There a lot of angry Broncos fan on here that just last week were calling him the next best qb. I guess Brock didnt want to play for a GM that benched him for a washed has been.

  21. bettywhiteshairnet says: Mar 10, 2016 6:23 AM

Most players ultimate goal, no matter what team, is to win the SB, and at the beginning of each season they vocalize it and honestly believe it. Why is Brock any different? The man did what most would do, he went for the money. Besides, that is the reason all of us work isn’t it, for the money? Granted he is still unproven, but give him a full season or two before passing judgment; he did ok in Denver. I’m willing to bet most of the negative comments are coming from salty, bitter, Denver fans who are now left without a QB. Hope RGme works out for yall.

Alot of harsh criticism given that manning had a 67.9 QBR last year and threw all of 2 TDs in the postseason. He brought that up to a 75 QBR in the postseason with a 55% completion rate.

The Broncos won with their defense, Manning was washed up but the defense carried that team.

You don’t need a franchise QB with a good running game and a great defense. Both of which the Texans have. I believe they have the ability to make a Broncos like run in the playoffs assuming they remain relatively healthy.

You don’t think Brock couldn’t have gotten 141 yards passing, 0 TD, 1 INT, 56 QBR in the superbowl?

Brian Hoyer could’ve given the Broncos those stats, indeed, he may be the Broncos starting QB next year.

  27. officialgame says: Mar 10, 2016 7:23 AM

Seven starts and $18 million. He has a better chance of running a successful chain of automobile franchises.

  28. tonebones says: Mar 10, 2016 7:26 AM

  32. jimmyt says: Mar 10, 2016 7:32 AM

More importantly he can keep a lot more of his own money. Texas does not have a repressive income tax like most of the other states.

  33. jkulha86 says: Mar 10, 2016 7:45 AM

I think Bill O’Brien can improve Brock’s game, but 18 million is a lot of pressure for someone who has only started 7 games.

and WHO are the Broncos going to start at QB next season?

  36. intrafinesse says: Mar 10, 2016 7:52 AM

I find it amusing when second rate teams overpay for second rate talent.

I hope Osweiler performs as well as a low end Tier 2 QB.
Good enough to get his team to 8-8, so they tread water for 5 years, never sniffing the play offs.

Not that I’m a Colts fan, but if Andrew Luck is healthy this year, the Texans are not coming in 1st, and not making a wild card berth.

Denver had a good run with Manning, now they too will fade. It’s the nature of the NFL and the salary cap.

  37. rollotomasi14 says: Mar 10, 2016 8:02 AM

I find it hilarious how quickly Denver fans turned on Osweiler

  38. annes22 says: Mar 10, 2016 8:14 AM

Glad he thinks that, maybe he should start right now because his playing in Denver certainly doesn’t suggest that. He has been overpaid by the Texans, so prove it now, because he certainly isn’t Elite, and that’s Elite money!!

  39. Lancane says: Mar 10, 2016 8:29 AM

I love the hate he is receiving…we’re talking a kid who went head to head with Brady in a shootout in snowy conditions and came out on top and the beat the upstart Bengals which allowed the Broncis to even sniff that first seed, lose those games and the Broncos are at home on SB Sunday watching the Patriots and Panthers.

  40. suncawy says: Mar 10, 2016 8:32 AM

Brock is going to have to hope that the defense is as good as the Broncos one this past season because they bailed him out in a few games he played. JJ Watt is a good start though.

  41. JaminJake says: Mar 10, 2016 8:35 AM

Congrats to Brock. He was smart to not turn that money down. However, he was handed the keys to the kingdom last year and he had a moment where he stalled. Texans come to Denver this year. Should be quite the show.

Can’t wait to see Khalil Mack get on the field with him again.

  42. codythao35 says: Mar 10, 2016 8:37 AM

Peyton won the Super Bowl for you. You haven’t won anything and won’t win anything in Houston.

  43. donatocha33 says: Mar 10, 2016 8:38 AM

How many games did this guy start?? And now he’s carrying the Texans to a super bowl…Yeah..ok.

  44. publikwerks says: Mar 10, 2016 8:42 AM

    Way too much? No.

The QB market is bone dry, and with the cap going up, it was bound to be expensive for QBs.

And while I wouldn’t say he is top tier, I thought he did pretty well when he started for Denver. He far better than the options Denver now has available.

Good point, which makes the signing even more ridiculous. The Broncos proved that you can still win titles in this league with the defense carrying the team. The Texans have that kind of defense.

So why did they just spend $72M on a QB hasn’t even proven he can play in this league yet?

  47. jjackwagon says: Mar 10, 2016 8:57 AM

Houston went 9-7 last year with no QB. He should be worth at least two wins.
Concerning Horse-face and the rest of Pile High nation…you reap what you sow.

  48. dcapettini says: Mar 10, 2016 8:58 AM

The only team that Houston has ever beaten in the playoffs is … you guessed it, Cincinnati. They play in the worst division in football. Two of the first 5 picks in the draft, including #1 are from the AFC South. They bum rushed the current Super Bowl winning coach out of town when the QB they gave him went south. So, next year, when Osweiler goes 8-8 they will get rid of him and get a new Messiah.

  51. Drunk Uncle says: Mar 10, 2016 9:07 AM

Texans needed a C+ quarterback to get through the first round last year, and got F+ play instead. This is a team that can win with 21 ppg due to their defense. Brock saw the Broncos are losing half their roster due to FA signings, whereas Houston is a playoff team that is adding talent. Plus Houston paid him far more money to be their star. He would have been foolish to turn down Houston’s offer, especially in light of the income tax issue.

  52. wallabear says: Mar 10, 2016 9:09 AM

am a Steelers fan and I live in Denver, I have never seen such a bitter fan base as what I am seeing around here now, Bronco fans are treating Brock as if he committed high treason or something. Really sad and kinda pathetic especially when the Bronco’s built that championship by signing alot of free agents from other teams. I hope that Brock has success in Houston.

  55. PFT loves the Steelers says: Mar 10, 2016 9:29 AM

    Several things…

    1. To those saying “Schaub 2.0”, I guess you think Osweiler is going to be a fantastic QB for several years, then inexplicably fall off a cliff? I mean, you do realize Schaub was very good for several years…right? I guess if you’re 13 you wouldn’t remember back that far.

    2. I find it funny that people are saying the Texans overpaid while also freaking out about the Broncos QB situation. If you want to know why the Texans paid a whopping 2 million more (sarcasm here) than the Broncos, just think about the Broncos situation right now.

  56. patsfan4lifesbchamps says: Mar 10, 2016 9:30 AM

He learned under Manning for 4 years, the kid is ready. Whether you like Brock or not, you can’t say he didn’t play a critical role in Denver’s championship run. He beat Brady and helped secure a home field advantage in the playoffs. One thing to also note, a QB is really secondary in Kubiak’s offense. Everything is centered around the running game. I expect Brock to have better numbers in Houston.

  57. milehirow39 says: Mar 10, 2016 9:34 AM

Sorry to see Malik go. However even the Raiders weren’t going to pay him what the Jags did. Sorry to see Brewer go. Let go in middle of rookie contract. Never made a bad snap.

Trevathon, Vasquez, Mathis–it makes sense. Replaceable though.

Brock? Did great things for us. Came back twice, down by 14 to beat the Pats and Bengals, but had issues with Raiders and Chargers. Downward ball movement. Slow reads. Worse QBR than Hoyer. Think about that. Worse than Hoyer. Just got paid more than Brady. No. Not worth the $$$

The Broncos situation is that they can sign a Ryan Fitzpatrick type for well under half what the Texans gave Osweiler and get, for at least the first year or two, every bit of the production.

To all the Bronco fans… Relax. This is a blessing in disguise. We can rid ourselves of a overpriced backup. He had a chance to excel when Peyton was hurt and still struggled. It was not Crock who won those games. It was our defense. I applaud the Texans for getting him but they are desperate and are hoping for the best. Do you think that t former quarterbacks, 1 a hall of famer, would not know the strengths and weaknesses of any quarterback? I thought Denver’s price was to high for Crock. John Elway will find a good quarterback for this team and they will still be a contender. This is plain and simple, Crock took the money! He’s not a team first guy he is a money first guy.

He went out and got the money. Who wouldn’t have? Elway benched a kid in favor of a legend on his farewell tour. That’s understandable, but don’t get mad at this kid for doing what any normal person would do under the same circumstances.
