Dolphins line up visits with Robert Ayers and Jason Jones

After signing Mario Williams and turning Olivier Vernon back into the market, the Dolphins are still looking for defensive end depth.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com, the Dolphins have scheduled visits with Giants defensive end Robert Ayers and Lions defensive end Jason Jones.

Ayers is also dropping by to see the Buccaneers while he’s in the neighborhood, so there’s demand for him.

Both Ayers (30) and Jones (29) are solid pieces, who can play multiple positions across the front. But neither have the kind of upside in terms of sack production. Ayers had a career-high 9.0 last year, while Jones has never had more than 5.0 in his eight NFL seasons.

I’ve heard Jason Jones is really good against the run, according to some Lions fans, but we shall see.

I guess they’ve decided to play next season without guards on the field on offense. Hell, that’s what it was like last year.

And you think that because as of today they have no guards sign. And tomorrow if they sign a guard, what will you say? Its about time they sign a guard…come back in June and see what they have done about this position. Bill

Fans do realize that we haven’t even completed the second day of free agency yet right? Based on their cap situation it was pretty clear that they couldnt compete with some of the money being thrown around at linemen on the first day. Miamu has plenty of time to address the line situation which will be done through second tier free agents and the draft.

Adding depth to a paper thin depth chart.

    I like it

Well 9 sacks is more than the 7.5 Vernon had. And Ayers missed 2 games. Maybe that’s why their FA from being banged up. Considering most off Vernon’s sacks were over 3 seconds while cleaning up. These older guys might even replicate that.

This is just Day 2 of free agency guys. Calm down. There are a handful of Gs out there plus the draft plus June cuts plus training camp cuts.
