There were reports of talks between the Falcons and linebacker O’Brien Schofield about a new contract before the start of free agency, but the new league year started with Schofield available to sign with any team in the league.

Schofield confirmed to Josina Anderson of ESPN that there have been discussions with the team about a second season in Atlanta, but that they haven’t found common ground on making that happen at this point.

“I would love to be back in Atlanta,” Schofield said. “Thought I did some good things. We aren’t seeing eye-to-eye on a contract.”

Schofield had 30 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble while playing in every game and starting 10 times during the 2015 season.

He also told Anderson that he’s heard from the Cowboys, Dolphins and Seahawks. Schofield played for Seattle in 2013 and 2014 and could help after Bruce Irvin left for Oakland. Both the Cowboys and Dolphins have been linked with other players who play on the edge defensively, which is where Schofield will fit for whoever signs him this offseason.
