DeMarcus Ware takes a pay cut, stays with the Broncos

The Broncos have lost a lot from their championship roster, but they won’t lose outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware.

Ware has agreed to a pay cut to stay with the Broncos, according to ESPN. There had previously been reports that Ware could get cut if he refused to take a pay cut. Ware, who will turn 34 this season, was scheduled to count $11.7 million against the Broncos’ salary cap.

With Ware on one side and Von Miller on the other, the Broncos had the NFL’s most ferocious pass rush. Ware had 7.5 sacks in the regular season (despite missing five games) and added 3.5 sacks in the postseason.

Now that pass rush will be back, with Miller staying either on the one-year franchise tag or on a long-term deal, and Ware staying at a reduced salary. The Broncos have suffered a lot of losses in the last week, but their edge pass rushers will remain in place.

When healthy the guy is an absolute beast. I figured the Broncos would keep him to give Shane Ray time to develop.

    GREAT KEEP!!! Thank you DeMarcus.

    I don’t know about ‘ lost a lot’…

Danny T… was the biggest loss.

Jackson… fed off Ware and Millers scraps. Did a good job cashing in on it. Good for him.

    Osweiler… won’t be felt.

Some older guys know that they already have more than enough money. Winning makes eventual retirement more enjoyable.

They’re trying to make room to keep Anderson.

That defense will still be a nightmare to deal with. The secondary hasn’t been touched and they are deep where they lost guys.

Denver’s D’s biggest issue this season will be injuries.

Likelihood is that one or both of Ware and Von Miller will get injured.

Thats not being bitter, its just the reality of life in the NFL.

Elway is a genius and Ware wants to keep winning. Ware has the best of both worlds. He’s got more money than he’ll ever need, and he gets to keep playing for a super bowl contender. And, he wants to be a Bronco. This kid is a winner.

You’re probably right. It’s hard to win back-to-back because it’s hard to stay healthy 2 years in a row. I thought Shane Ray was one of the top 2 or 3 players coming out of college when the Broncos stole him at the end of the first round. He just might be the best pass rusher on the Broncos’ team. If Miller or Ware go down, the Broncos could actually get better. That’s just darn right scary. Elway is a genius.
