Redskins extend punter Tress Way

The Redskins have signed punter Tress Way to a five-year contract.

Way won the job in 2014 and has averaged 46.8 yards per punt in two seasons. His 47.5 yard average in 2014 was best in the NFL.

Way, 25, is a left-footed punter who played collegiately at Oklahoma. He was an exclusive rights free agent, and the long-term extension is a vote of confidence from the team.

One that got away from my Bears. We had him in camp but dropped him in favor of the incumbent who went on to have a very less-than-good season. Glad this kid got another chance and has made the most of it.

I remember thinking it then, the Bears would regret letting him go, and now I’m happy for his sake that the potential I saw has asserted itself.

All that being said, Phil Emery was an idiot.

I’ve always felt if you have a left footed punter you have an advantage. Returners hate fielding them because the ball spins the opposite way they’re used to. I’m pretty sure the percentage of muffs on left footed punts is significantly higher than from right footers.

Nice to see the Redskins finally have a reliable punter we have had issues with that for a while. BTW thanks for saying Redskins!

The Redskins are going to build their team like the Nationals… From the bottom up with no expensive FA for now, but will buy them later after the foundation has been laid. I expect another 10 players in the draft this year with at least 6-8 making the team. Nice to see them lock up the best punter in the league… but…. Sure would be nice to lock up Galette for another year.

I hope they do a better job than the Nationals. They were a mess last summer.

Tress? His parents could have named him Right Of, or Wrong. Wasted opportunity.

Uh oh you said Redskins. Boss is going to get mad!

Seriously though, why not call all teams by their respective city? Otherwise you are just creating drama and drawing more attention to the “offensive” name.

Strange logic but consider the source.
