Bills announce termination of Karl Dunbar

The Bills have made it official, on a Sunday night. Defensive line coach Karl Dunbar has been relieved of his duties. Which is a fancy way of saying he was fired.

“This was a difficult decision as Karl both played for me and then coached on my staff with two different teams and I have a great deal of respect for him,” coach Rex Ryan said in a news release. “But I feel we needed to make a change and go in a different direction at this point in time and so I have informed Karl that I am relieving him of his duties. I want to take this opportunity to thank Karl and wish him the best of luck in the future.”

The timing suggests that something has happened, whether it was at the Scouting Combine or the result of day-to-day interactions that finally reached critical mass.

The Bills have not yet announced a replacement for Dunbar.

This one is so obvious. Rexies brother needs a job. You know, a foot in the door. Sad. But their defense did s@@k.

Dollars to Donuts this was something between Dunbar and Rob, forcing Rex to fire Dunbar.

Give Rex 2 years and he’s gone.

Dunbar must of made a disparaging remark about people with foot fetishes ..

And yet some peole still think Rex has what it takes to be a successful head coach.

2 1/2 to one is pretty tough to beat, Dunbar never had a say in the process…………

Remember last year when Billy Nation boasted loudly that Rex and company would overtake the Pat’s? Good times.

This was an interesting story the first time I read it, about three stories up from this one. Any reason it’s on there twice with no additional details in either version?

Who the hell allowed Rex to hire his incompetent brother? Seriously, did that person believe that if Rob was doing a terrible job Rex would pull the trigger? Come on…nepotism in the NFL has no chance, especially with these two.

They didn’t give him a chance to save face.

Apparently Dunbar made the mistake of saying that he didn’t think people were supposed to eat breakfast, brunch, and lunch all in the same day. When Rex and Rob calmed down they quickly showed him the door.

“Bills announce termination of Karl Dunbar”

Clicked on the headline to see if he was at least offered a blindfold or cigarette. Was relieved to read it was just his employment that was terminated.

I wonder if this was about money, because Dunbar is a solid coach…

Oddly, the Great Rex Ryan Hype train, as it heads inexorably to 4-12, is no longer crammed with hyperventilating Bills fans.

Will be happy when the ryans are out of football…this is a loser move. Hope Jets rail you next year (and I can’t stand the Jets).

Didn’t take off his socks all season. Far too much of a tease for Rex.

When the Ryans put together the solid defense I know they will, the offense will be even better and the division is ours. You loser grumblers will have a mouth full of crow. The Bills will be a frightening foe for all this year. They are due for less injuries, it could hardly be worse than last year, and this will vault them over the top.

Probably had incurable toe nail fungus.

  19. luther6 says: Mar 14, 2016 1:24 PM

Presumably the announcement refers to his employment status and nothing more.

You know, unless the Bills have suddenly gone Apocalypse Now.

Remember when everybody thought Buddy Ryan would make a great head coach (“You Got A Winner in Town!)? Holy deja vu.
