Report: Jags wanted Beachum to sign before leaving

Free agent left tackle Kelvin Beachum concluded a visit with the Jaguars Monday, and ESPN’s Josina Anderson reported Monday night that Jaguars officials were trying to convince Beachum to agree to a contract before leaving Jacksonville.

That didn’t happen. Anderson followed up with a report that said Beachum was already on a plane back to Pittsburgh to evaluate his next step.

The visit was the second since the start of free agency for Beachum, who previously visited the Jets.

Beachum tore his ACL last October, ending his fourth season with the Steelers after six games. Beachum, 26, took over as the full-time left tackle for the Steelers in 2014.

There have been no signs that a Beachum-Steelers reunion is in the cards. The Steelers re-signed guard Ramon Foster before free agency and have either visited or set up visits with other offensive tackles. Sunday, they reportedly made a contract offer to longtime Seahawks left tackle Russell Okung.

Its simple… the man wants a ring and knows hes gonna get it in Pittsburgh…

The guy obviously doesn’t want to leave Pittsburgh and if you’re willing to pay Okung anything in the ballpark just change the name on the contract, figure out how to eat a couple extra mill and give it to Beachum. Stop trying to play hardball to bring his numbers down this guy deserves every penny he has earned.

A Hard Sell can easily backfire.

Steelers don’t want him. That simple. Give it up Beach

I’d sure like to have this guy back on our team!

Welcome to Seattle! We need to you and want you. Might not get top dollar but I’m sure you’ll be handsomely rewarded and even though your coming off of injury your still healthier and more reliable than Okung who is soft as they come. I’d take okung back also but I’d prefer beachem bc of style of play. Either guy isn’t getting top dollar with current injury status.

    Lions would like him

  8. gibbyfan says: Mar 14, 2016 9:58 PM

I surprised the Raiders haven’t shown interest. I guess if his present team doesn’t want him it has to be a major red flag

  9. ohand16 says: Mar 14, 2016 9:59 PM

He went back to Pittsburgh to pick up his dry cleaning .

Get cracking Quinn. Don’t put all your eggs in Okung’s basket. If there’s one position Lions need to spend on it’s LT.

Does anyone seriously believe that Okung is worth a crap at this point in his career if he is available to sign?

Further proof that both Beach and the Squealers are overflowing with stupidity. 3rd place for the losers, coming right up, with 1 yr. closer to the end of little Ben. Remember the glory years with Bubby Brister\Mark Malone\Stoudt\etc…? Ah, good times.

What’s left in available Oline are all circling the bottom of the bowl right now including Okung. They are all ones that their own team offered them nothing. Many for good reason and fans are still saying Coke to their team ? Funny

Pittsburgh tried to sign him last offseason and the negotiations went nowhere. The sides were too far apart. From what I heard it was a decent contract offer as well. But of course that was before he tore his acl. The Steelers said from the beginning they were gonna let their free agents test the market. Hopefully he will be back in Pittsburgh. He knows our offense and he is a hell of a player. I would rather have him over Okung. I guess we shall see what happens next. Beach we need you Go Steelers.

It’s disappointing that the Steelers aren’t doing anything to keep him. I feel bad for this team that has taken more than its share of hits in the past week. I know they had their hearts set on Weddle but I’m sure they can use one of their seventh round draft picks to find someone.

I think Beachum is still the Steelers top choice, with Okung the second, and the offers the Steelers made to each of them reflects that. They have other players interviewing in Pittsburgh as well.

Let’s not forget last year’s left tackle, former Army Ranger and the best story in professional football, Alfredo Villanueva. I don’t care what team you follow. If you can’t respect Villanueva, you don’t just fail at football, you fail at America.

Plus Mike Adams had some funky little known clause in the cba carry his contract over for another year at last year’s wages. Go ahead and laugh, I always do, but he’s still a possible roster spot. Albeit a huge long shot. It wouldn’t surprise me if he turned out to be Matavis Bryant’s herbal hookup.

Plus the draft, plus whatever else happens. The Steelers will have multiple options competing for about 2 roster spots and one practice squad spot. We’ve got a long way to go before training camp and a lot of things will happen before then. Bring on the draft!

    Go Steelers:)

I can’t wait for the draft either! But that 4th round is going to be brutal for the Steelers. Ravens pick at 104 and the Steelers pick at 123. After that, Ravens run the table with five picks before the Steelers can pick again at 220, 229, and 246. I don’ t know if you checked out what happened to the players drafted last year at 220, 229, and 246. Oh well, maybe the Steelers will have better luck.
