The Texans signed safety Rahim Moore to a three-year deal last offseason, but Moore quickly fell out of favor in Houston and got released before the start of free agency.
Quintin Demps and Andre Hal got the majority of the starts at safety once Moore was shuffled to the bench, but Demps is a free agent and the Texans are looking at other options in the secondary. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that Antonio Allen is one such option.
McClain reports that Allen is visiting the Texans on Tuesday. Allen did not play at all for the Jets in 2015 after tearing his Achilles in August, but made 17 starts over the 2013 and 2014 seasons. Some of those appearances came at cornerback while the Jets were short on numbers at the position and Allen recorded 104 tackles, 1.5 sacks and and an interception while making 31 appearances overall in those two seasons.
There’s been talk of Texans interest in holding onto Demps, who had 61 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble and a Week 17 fumble recovery for a touchdown last year, but nothing has materialized on that front.
